Charge Money For Shows
Re: Charge Money For Shows
Learn to read Ryan, i have already wasted enough time ... i said i didn't make all my money off of B.G. for that trip, Mostly sponsor money, but i did get money from B.G. I can guarantee you that, whether you want to accept that fact or not! So quit already....

Re: Charge Money For Shows
i'm with thomas...the show looked pretty good with alot of new style....i give kane a lot of credit, he still competes, and still pushes his skill level.
Re: Charge Money For Shows
if you got sponsored to go there, why are there only BG sponsor decals on the bike???? once again dude....please realize that i'm not an idiot, if someobody else paid you to go to china your bike would CLEARLY represent that company--am i wrong?
Re: Charge Money For Shows
+1 nothing like getting a call from someone looking to book you and then have them turn around and say well this group said they will do it for free or some cheap price that isn't worth the time .... even better is when they take the cheap/free show and it is garbage, which leaves the promoter/coordinator not wanting to hire anyone else because that show sucked ...
Re: Charge Money For Shows
This thread, minus the drama is dead on. you endanger yourselves and work your asses off to entertain a crowd who paid to be entertained.
be a pro entertain people, and get paid. Anything less is wrong and you will be taken advantage of by people who like to keep ALL that money in their pocket.
If you're not a solid negotiator find someone who is, and have them negotiate on your behalf. Same story, the pros get paid.
good thread, it benefits the sport.
as for the notion of stealing shows, undercutting is wrong. There needs to be a fairly universal pro exhibition contract template out there specifying a set day rate for pros, plus travel. Pros need to be instantly verifiable through a reliable (web) source.
Pro show and competitive riders need to get together on this and agree on a fair rate. Obviously the top ten competitors command more, and the set rate is the cheapest you can work for, if you can get paid more, get it.
I'm doing my best to pump prices up from the corporate side, but I'm walled up by the current trend of riders going cheap.
Some of you guys are total hookers,
but I understand, the sport is just starting to grow and people want to do what they do, and be seen. right now, if a promotor says they can get someone to do it for free, it's hard to hold out for money because you know ******* well they will go get the free guy to come do whatever schwag wheelies he has in his bag.
In other news, the people putting on the show get to choose who rides for them, same with sponsors, they pick who reps them.
So if your sponsor goes to someone else, that person didn't steal your sponsor. What happened is, you failed to satisfy the sponsor, and you need to bring up your game. The best thing to do is to politely and calmly ask what you need to do differently, and take the advice. A worthwhile sponsor knows better than to put their brand behind the free guy so you're fairly safe from undercutting there.
It's time to push for a branded recognizable distinction between a pro and an amateur, and there should be a serious push for promoters to only use pros. and pay the riders union rate or better. I'd market the pro angle using both safety and a more organized and exciting show as hooks.
