A friend of mine has done it twice now (05 636 motor in an 04 bike). The upper rear motor mount won't line up, but you can make it work. Also, I think something is different about the cam timing pickup thing and the stator plugs. You have to do something with those. He ran his bike with the '04 wiring harness, airbox, and throttle bodies. The airbox also doesn't seal up perfectly, but he put additional padding around the edges and made it work.
It's not a direct bolt-in swap, but it's also not impossible.
