Ya I read it somewhere

Let me ask you a question did I say what model they used chipped keys on?or just that they started to use them in 06?

And now to answer your smart *** question, no I didnt read it somewhere...My freind bought an 06 R6 and when I rode it home for him cause he was a noob, the dealer explained to me why there was 3 keys and one was red! Cause they are chipped keys/ignitions, "so dont loose the red one or we cant service your bike"!

the 06 r6 uses the same ignition as the 07 r1. and the same 5 wires, 2 small blue, big red orange brown, listen man im not going to argue. u know what your talking about because the dealer told your friend something so u are right. i dont know ****.

also whats so special about the red key if the other "non chipped" ones work huh? what the other 2 keys are valet keys and you cant open the glovebox with them?

i think the canada models may have the chips in them... we dont have them here in the usa... at least not yet... i guess there is to much money in the theft and not the prevention over here.... so you both were right

I just looked on the Yamaha site and the 08 R1 has it, maybe we got them earlier but they should all have them by now....And I dont see why we would get them in Canada and not you guys in the US, becasue bike theft is a bigger problem in the US. And we usually get everything after you guys anyways....strange Maybe they dont want to stop bike theft there

immobilizer ignition system is designed to reduce the possibility of "ride away" theft. This system must recognize the "coded ignition key" in order for the unit to start. If the immobolizer ignition does not recognize the key (or a theft's screwdriver or other type of "jimmy tool") the bike will not start even if the ignition is turned or forced into the on position. If the system does not recognize the coded chip in the ignition key, it will not allow the ignition system or starter motor to function.

yeah over here in the usa..bro we let drug dealers smuggle the drugs in just so we can have something to do.... ... in america... i think we like to make it easy to do crime...cause it gives the government a reason to keep funding the police... if they really want to stop car theft and bike thefts they could... but they dont sweat it as much cause they now most folks got insurance

I buy all my **** from the US because I cant get newer stuff here...For example all the stores here are just starting to sell Famous gear, but its all 06 stuff...LOL We usually get thinks a few months or even a year after you guys get them in the US...

You're both right... I've dealt with 06/07 R1's and they are chipped, in Canada. Salvage bike, No red key so the ignition/ecu, etc was all replaced with US parts and cut keys and it worked. The US R1's got chips in 08

2005 636 has chipped key in Europe.

also my previous bike 954Rr 2003 had chipped key. europe model too.

To me it's retarted to sell bikes without chips, they are too easy to steal without chips.

Quess what is good way to test is it chipped.? wrap the key in aluminium foil. If the bike doesn't start up, it has a chip. Aluminium foil stops the electric signals getting to the key.

chip is old news. i had 1995 BMW car with chipped key.
