Downshift Wheelies

I heard someone telling me that they would down shift from 2nd to first and hit the throttle to "pop" it up. Havn't tried such thing yet, was just wondering if that is even worth trying...

Re: Downshift Wheelies

yeah there realy isnt a reason to do it. you should be fine to just clutch it up, its more controllable also. my friend does it powering it up and he has almost lost it so many times..

Re: Downshift Wheelies

no way, i used to do power wheelies when i started riding, they are hard to control and hard on your bike. power wheelies are good for nothing but squids!! clutch it up, the lower rpms the better.(i go 8000rpm, trying to get down to 6000 this year)

Re: Downshift Wheelies

no way on my gixxer i used to pow pow it up everywhere i went and never had an issue or miscalculation. i would do spreaders, staggerds, and sitdowns for miles. not till i started riding lots did i use the clutch, and still for the first 2 weeks that i learned rear brake i would power it up with 2 down in the front 3 up in the back, 5 mph rockin idle. then my buddy says, "youre a squid use the clutch!"

Re: Downshift Wheelies

i up shift and down shift all the time once i'm in the wheelie. If i clutch it up in 4th and want to slow down, i usually pull it back into a heavy brakeing coaster and down shift to whatever gear i want to be in and when i get to the corresponding speed for the gear i shifted into, i match the RPMs and let the clutch out nice... or if i'm in first and feel like going faster, just upshift w.o the clutch....

but as far as downshifting and goosin the throttle... idk why the **** you would do that. unless your creepin 2nd, when you downshift your gonna be bouncing off the limiter pretty quick. just learn how to clutch it up, don't worry about what other people tell you and their "tricks", clutching it up is the most consistent and IMO easiest way to pull the front up.

Re: Downshift Wheelies

You downshift when youre coming up to a red light and you want to do some circles but youdont want to put the front wheel down first. Not hard if you can do hb coasters.
