i think your still talking about an aluminum sleeve not a steel one a fine honing stone can make quite a smooth finish and if that wasn't smooth enough polishing could be done but i don't think it's needed for a steel sleeve

I just spent $300 on a Magura 13mm to make my HB even better then a $200 Brembo 16mm.....This is a cheap way of getting any bore you want out of a cheap master.....

ahhhhhh i see. thanks for the info! I learn something new everyday! Right on thanks

Thanks OMR for the info!

Exactly, Klaas says, or atleast he thinks, that steel is smooth enough... Like I said his master cylinder works just fine, and we'll see how long it will last...

Only time will tell

Theres a big difference between "quite a smooth finish" and a "microfinish" that these bores require, and I dont think any of us posting even have the insturments to measure that kind of finish, nevermind the equipment to produce them. Before you go any futher maybe you should actually have a look at one of these bores, then tell me you think you can produce that glass like micro finish yourself with hones.....They are literally a mirror finish, Im a do it yourselfer too but Im looking at these master infront of me and I cant see it happening....Not even my machinest who has CNC's lathes can produce that finish, he said Id have to take it to someone that specializes in that kind micro finishing....

Surface finish aside I dont see uncoated steel working in the long term, I think it will wear the rubber seals no matter how smooth you get it with hones and polishing. And if you do polish it what are you going to polish it with? To insure your keeping the intire bore 100% straight and consitant diamter all the way through?

Dont get me wrong Im not a HATER, I think the idea itself is GREAT! Im just a realist and there comes a point with alot of ideas, where you just have to realize you cant produce your idea yourself...Like I said if Klass takes his idea to the right place and has these sleaves made for him with the proper tooling, this could be a great product...And Id love to see that.....

I realized this when I started making my stays, I do alot of the work myself and even thou I own 2 CNC routers that I could setup to cut out the aluminum plate parts, I still have these parts cut for me on a water jet machine....I could also easily get a welder a weld them myself, but I have a 20+ experienced welder weld them for me......prototying is one thing but to actually sell a product like this I think it needs to be done RIGHT, not done as best as you can with what you have(ala 905)....

I think Ive said all I can say to get my point accross, even tried to highlight my point with info staright from Bill at FT (who IMO knows more about this then any of us could, I mean this is what he does for a living!).....

to Klass for his great innovation

So if it is that impossible to do how does Bill do it?

Re: -= Check this out! Some sick Dutch inventions by Klaas! =-

I know one thing, Klaas isn't planning on making this a serious product... He just came up with this idea, likes to work and experiment with it, BUT MOST OF ALL, he just liked to share his idea's and inventions with all of you...

He's not planning to bust his ***** off to provide half america with his "product" He just wanted to show what his idea was, and that he is working on it

And he believes steel is hard enough, and doesn't ware out the seals or anything... Yeah maybe in a long term notice, but I had a original brembo 16x18, and after only a couple of months, the seals began leaking...

So it's not like the special microscopic finish gives you unfailable master cylinders who just cannot leak

He's indeed, an innovator, trying to come up with new things, or make old ideas better...

We'll see how long his mastercylinders hold up

Who said its impossible?

He does it with the proper machinery/tooling, not a manual shop lathe.....Im not even sure if Bill himself has the ability to do this at his own shop(not sure what machinery he has), or if he has to have it done for him....

Bottom line is he is doing this and doing it right! and he said "He's going to need more than that lathe to hit the surface finishes that yield any real performance or he'll just be weeping fluid"

So take it for what its worth from someone that knows what their doing, you can say I dont know what Im talkin about all you want. If your going to say Bill doesnt know what hes talking about, then your out to lunch!....

Why not produce them? Its a great idea and its his so he should be the one making them if anyone....Otherwise someone might come along and use his idea, and make money off it...

I think drop in kits for the OEM GSXR Nissin and R6/R1 Brembo radial master cylinders would be sic! Nice little kits with a drop in sleave, a little tube of glue he uses, and a new piston and seals...That would be pretty cool

That wasnt directed at only you, but how am I reading too far into what you said? Im just saying if you wont take my word for it, then maybe take Bill @ FT's word as I got info from him......

"So if it is that impossible to do how does Bill do it?"

Pretty simple to undersand IMO Bill said "hed need more then a lathe", so Im going out on a limb here and Im thinkin Bill has more then a manual lathe to "do it" or is getting it done elsewhere....

Re: -= Check this out! Some sick Dutch inventions by Klaas! =-

johnny most automotive master cylinders, calipers and wheel cylinders are made out of cast iron and steel ,they don't have the micro finish you are talking about and they last just fine, the mirror finish you keep talking about is on an aluminum part that needs a special coating to make the aluminum stronger

aluminum master cylinders and caliper only come standard on most motorcycles because they are race bikes at heart ,that and aluminum is getting to be as cost effective as steel, it's also easier to machine

no one said bill doesn't know what he is talking about , he is the brake guru but he's not here reading all the different post that you are commenting on

so, after all, steel would probably last just fine

But either way, Klaas is also working on making the inner piston of the handbrake master cylinder from "messink". That should definately do the trick according to him that is

I think InsaneJ means brass? Brass sleeves are indeed used on some older cars while rebuilding brake master cylinders...
