what size sprocket did you guys start off with?
Re: what size sprocket did you guys start off with?
Plus motherf*ckin one...... I'm in the middle of re-learning as we speak!
Got a 60 tooth from Geared steel ebay store for like $50 on auction last week cuz the 57 I was procrastinating puttin on was off a buddies bike, and he was running 530 on his 05 gixx.
BTW anyone need a 57 geared 530 sprocket for an 05-07 gixxer??? lol
I used two master links and a chain off a totalled out 06 750 that was one of them frame snapped bikes.lol I basically just made my stock chain longer. and with using my stock front sprocket I got geared for around 50 bucks! heh heh OH and $11 for the master links.... big deal!
I put around 2,000 miles on the bike mainly trying to slow down street wheelies before I geared up. Now it's like I never even put on the 2,000 miles at all! And I guarantee that doin nothing but riding the motard for months at the lot exclusively didn't help me much either, but still....
I agree with OMR. Definately should start out learning on your lot killers with what you plan on running..wish I wouldv'e..... I imagine it will take me the better part of a month to get to the point I'm at on the motard with my newly geared bike. But I wouldv'e never had a chance if I had left that stock sprocket on, my lot isn't big enough....

07 zx stock=16/43 current 16/47, wanted 48 but they were sold out, twisties and highway 4 this bike, clutches up great 1st&2nd and still hauls ***.
99 zx stock 15/40 current 14/52, wonder if bigger would be better, I'm a squid trying to ride out idle bps so I couldn't really say. Definately gave nice torque at slow speed.

+1, i just went -1 +7 on a 600rr. i think its good to learn basics to wheelies on stock gearing, but once you found BP gear that ****** down. I regressed about 2 months of practice after i changed gearing. Once you relearn though, you learn fast. Took about a week, but now im doin better than I ever was. I could have easily done it alot sooner though, theres no real reason keep stock gearing once you start getting the feel of stunting
how did that setup feel? i'm leaning towards -1 +7 or -1 +5 on a 600rr....
what do u recommend?

stock here.. for a few years

feels great, easy to take on the highway and gas isnt bad. If anyting i would go one more down in the front. Its def plenty of gearing. I have been doing 2nd gear stuff just to get used to it, first is a bit touchy but im gettin the feel of it. Only thing is my speedo is like 15-20mph off what it was, factory was already like 4-5 mph off. What I llike about it is the increase in engine braking, it helps out a ton. Then again ive always been one that preferred throttle control over rear brake. Maybe not the best way, im just really comfortable with it. Now with the gearing, i dont really have to worry about getting to far back to the point where i have no choice but to use the rear brake, i can fix it with the throttle alone. I still cover it, its just less to worry about.

When I bought my F4i It came 12 up 1 down. My first time on a street bike... couldent do ****! Was so F'n Choppy I couldnt hold on to the damn thing.. went to stock the same day and was riding all the way down the street.. Now im rollin SS at low Idle. Im ready to go back . I even changed my rear tire today and thought about it and said **** it.. just a little more practice. So its all what you feel comfortable with. I like the low response of it. I did get good pullin the clutch to slowdown yesterday. makes it so much easier.. I hate engine brake.

Re: what size sprocket did you guys start off with?
sorry to thread jack but my girl's lookin at what to order me for christmas and I'm sure it'll be enough but is 120 link enough for -1 +5 (15/50) ? HAI says 120 link is good generally upto +5 so I just wanna make sure before she orders a 120 link and I end up too short

I rode a +7 on my 900RR back in 2001 & at that time I was running a big gear. I was doing seat standers for days w/ no handbrake - Till I totaled it hahaha.
