Re: 06 636 Faulty Forks
i had a set of 04-05 gsxr 6 forks start leaking where the lower tube(chrome), goes into the casting(where the axel goes through)there was no way to tighten it either(no set screw) but i haven't heard of it happening to anyone else, and i didn't keep rideing on it to find out if it was gonna break or not.(you could see the tube moveing in the casting.......) i just threw on a gsxr 1000 front end.

Re: 06 636 Faulty Forks
JUST for everyones info- i seen my fender moving and noticed my forks were loose at the bottoms on my 06 636, they werent leaking just wobbling. i checked my boys 04 636 forks when i got home and his wobbles slightly. check your forks by pushing the bike forwards and slightly squeeze the front brake and watch your fender, no ones safe
you do realize that every fork ever built since the begining of forks has flex and play in them?
that isn't your fork tubes moving inside the fork lowers you are seeing, that's your inner tubes moving in your outter tubes. it does that because there is no way to manufacture perfect fit between inner and outters. the forks would work if they were solid. you are seeing the play between the bushings of the forks since the wheel would be locked (brake held) and the top forks would be moving. along with that play you see, you are also getting some play in the front wheel bearings also. that together makes the fender move and the forks move a little when the front brake is held.
to actually examine if the fork tubes are loose in the lowers you would have to use something to hold the fork inner tubes (shiny part) perfectly still while trying to move the lower leg.
if you worked on suspensions and understood this you would bitch about them. know what you are talking about before you post something that is innacurate.
there is a huge difference between fork play and the lowers being loose in the legs. the 03/04 screw in and would loosen. the shows on the 05 and newer are PRESSED in place, not just a setscrew like the KYB. they can loosen a lot easier.
if you don't like danger go take up knitting.

Re: 06 636 Faulty Forks
This can happen to any bike with USD forks, I think were seeing it so much with the 636's because eveyone and their ******* mother stunts one...
My friends 954 forks are loose at the bottom, but havent snapped yet.....
The biggest problem is that to really tighten these enough you have to dissasemble the forks. There is a hole near the top of the inner tube thats used to tighten them into the fork bottoms....Thats is the only way to hold the inner tubes tight enough to really tighten them into the bottoms... No starp wrench is going to give you enough grip to really tighten them...
