Re: F4 Conversion to F4I
without that there will be no spark. took me acouple days to figure that out, water pump and fitting on block are also different from there it is easy:YEAH Re: F4 Conversion to F4I

Re: F4 Conversion to F4I
I helped (meaning, he paid, I did the work) swap a wrecked F4 into an F4i in...2002 or so for a friend.
I had only been into bikes about 3 years then and there was a lot I didn't know. I was completely unaware of the CPG and wasn't much into the internet. That was a real headache for awhile.
He only paid $1K bucks for a clean title wrecked F4 in decent shape. He got all the F4i bodywork, seats, lights, tank, etc. off ebay for less than 1K. That's where the whole swap idea started. I thought it was take a couple hours to get the lights sorted out, but then he wanted to swap to the fuel injection and it turned into a month long pain in the ***/learning experience for me.
Whether you should do it or not, it depends on your situation. It may be cheaper/easier/faster to sell your F4 and buy an F4i. If your resourceful and mechanical and your F4 is trashed you might be better off doing the swap. However, if you have to ask...

and what is jmo talking about ?
Re: F4 Conversion to F4I
talking about the cam pulse generator....f4 doesnt have one......your f4 engine will need to have an f4i head installed so you can install the cpg, otherwise you will never have any spark!! and i would get the harness complete includeing ignition for the f4i. i dont think any of the engine electronics on the f4 are going to work for the f4i engine
...and yes you will need a new tank w/ a fuel pump!

...and yes you will need a new tank w/ a fuel pump!I already got the gas tank, fuel pump, airbox, injection head, full harness ... i still need the rectifier and the cdi unit and this is why I was wondering if the cdi unit needs to be bought with the ignition keys as a pair - I know from my RR that the ignition key has a chip inside and its read by the cdi
does this makes sense ?
Re: F4 Conversion to F4I
oh...i see... im not knowin about that, but i doubt it..... i have heard of ppls resistor in the ignition goin out on the f4i and just getting another ignition off egay to fix the prob....so i think you will be ok on that but that is just a thought not a fact....
Re: F4 Conversion to F4I
I just converted mine, best thing ive ever done. This doesnt really answer any of the questions in this thread, but thats cos i cant be arsed to go back and read all the replies
You do need the ECU, barrel, coded key and reader. Not sure about US models, but UK ones have the HISS, so each ECU is coded to the key, which makes them dearer, You can get them blanked, but otherwise you will need to buy them together.
