Hand Brake?

I hear people say that Hand Brakes are cheating, but I also see well known stunters usin' em, so what do you think? People such as Tony D and Dan Jackson use them, and I also just rode with Kurt(JackassRR) from IBWS who had one. What's your opinion, good learning tool or cruch that will hurt you in the end?

Re: Hand Brake?

Personal choice. I like em, i'm assembling the parts for mine as i type this. Some people are gonna say its cheating, which if used all the time ya it does make some tricks easier than without. But until stunt comps outlaw them (which i don't think will happen) then they'll be around. Personally most outsiders have no idea how hard a specific trick is, so they don't care wether you have a handbrake or not as long as it looks cool.

Re: Hand Brake?

Cheats = dented tank, sprockets, removing the rearseat, using passenger peg, upgrading front end, removing mirrors, cages, handbrakes, steering dampners, lower tire pressure, moto-bars, 12 bars, shorty exhausts, after market clipons/turning stock ones out, fairing braces, steel brake lines, ceremic front wheel bearings, high idle...

I leave anything else out??

I have 11 of those cheats. Sue me.

Re: Hand Brake?

i think u shud get one only after u learn everything there is to do w/o one. so after u can scrape hc, 50/50, tank, seatstander, etc w/o go get one learn idle hc ss circles etc. plus if u learn wih out one u can jsut hope on any bike and do it. which wud be an andvantage if ur at a show and ur bike eats shyt and u hafta borrow one. i dont think its bad if u have one to do all thta stuff with i jsut think ur better off learning everything first.

Funny story:

Yesterday my boys was tearing up Highchair scrapes, spreader scrapes, seat stander scrapes all day.. no handbrake. (I'll post pics later, he's pimp and no ones ever seen him)

anyways, me and my handbrake could barely muster up a HC scrape! So whats that tell ya?

Re: Hand Brake?

Back when big sprokets where the new thing I asked Matt Gorkea if he thought that was cheating. His reponse?

" If it takes a big sprocket to make me the best rider I can be then I'll have a big sprocket."

Re: Hand Brake?

i think scrapeing stuff wud be harder with a handbrake. i also think it wud be safer. but w/o u go past bp and pull the clutch in, hit, let the clutch out and hope fully theres enuff engine brake. sounds easy to me, but not as safe cuz ur not sure ur comin off the bar. but with a handbrake u hafta get ur self to throttle the bike all teh way to the bar which seems ahrder to me. jsut my

Re: Hand Brake?

Ive got 12 of those cheats. In my opinion, riders should have their basics down and more before getting a handbrake.

You know how to ride the idle, you have the brake control, no handers, tank ****, burnouts....The only thing I can see that you dont have is scrapes.

YOU NEED TO PARK 12 FOO....just givin ya **** homie.

I think you, myself, CBO, Card, and Drew are the only ones in DMI who should even have a handbrake thought in their mind. Next would be Schuler.

Handbrake takes a lot of idle know how

There is def a right of passage to hb's. You cant just throw one on.. I get **** from my boy David for having one, but then again he's +21. We have contests to see who can go slower on SS and tank stuff. We usually tie, BUT main difference is he hits the bar by accident alot more than me.

You have to earn your HB. In my eyes anyhow.
