Assorted tech questions..

Ok got a few questions,

1. I have the Fast50's billet throttle. I really like and have been using the ProGrip's brand grips, however the throttle tube needs to be about 1/4" longer or so cus the grip on the throttle side is too long or the tube. After one good day of riding the end piece of the grip is mashed up and either half ripped off or completely gone. I realize this is why grips are $7 a pair but damn it would be nice to keep a set on for more then a couple days.. I tried putting 3 nickels in the grip this last time and it lasted a bit longer but only by a couple hours riding time eventually it still ripped on the end. Any thoughts? What you all doing for this or does it not bug you?? I was wondering if I'm buying too big of grips maybe they make shorter ones i havnt seen yet..

2. on the left side of the bike when sitting on it (fuel petcock side) there is a line running from the engine to a little black oblong box that is bolted to the frame it just says honda on it. It has another line running out the other side of it to the stock airbox. WTF is this for?! Is it an emissions deal? catch can type thing or what? all the ones I see in pics that are modded up dont have this anymore. I am getting ready to strip the bike down to the frame and just wondering if it needs to be there or what? I wanna relocate my key to that hole if possible but the line to the engine runs through it.

3. The stock airbox. everything else on my bike motor-wise is stock and will be for a long time. Like mentioned before I want to relocate my key to the hole next to it. To do so the end of the stock snorkel is in the way of the hole in the frame brace. If I went to a K&N type filter will it hurt anything performance wise? I have seen lots of opinions both ways from back a year or so ago on a search about air filters and I am just curious what the thoughts now are? I dont care much about performance other then hurting the stock performance I just want my key there and cant the way it is.. would chopping an inch or so off the end of the snorkel hurt anything??

4. Annodized rims. All I have found are red blue black & gold does anyone make any other colors or is that pretty much it unless you just paint your own?

1.Go take the throttel off a MX bike.
2.I think that black box has left over oil run through it to the fliter to be burned.
3. You may gain some but it will get wet and dirty faster.
4.I think thats it. You could go to a anodize shop and have them do a color for you on your stockers.

So those who have gotten rid of the stock air box what do they do with the line running from the engine to where this left over oil black box was?

On the filter answer your talking about getting dirty faster by going to the K&N filter? What about cutting off about an inch or so on the stock box's snorkel? Just enough to get the key housing to fit by?

Re: Assorted tech questions..

The tube that goes to the engine is your crankcase breather tube. Leave it on the engine, or put a longer one on. I attached a long piece fuel tubing to the engine and ran it up under my seat then attached a small k&n filter to it.

You can cut the stock air box to get the ignition to fit, but I would get a k&n or a unifilter and eliminate the stock airbox. Your ignition will fit with either of these. These filters let the engine breathe a lot better. As far as getting dirty faster, these two filters are both reusable and easier to clean than the having to take the stock airbox apart to clean the stock filter.

Thanks for the info! I am looking for pictures now to try to see what people are doing (gallery is acting weird only showing the first page of pics). What I am wondering is if I need to change anything else like jetting or exhaust if I went with one of these types of filters? Or if the stock stuff will still work with this filter as it did with the stock air box.

Re: Assorted tech questions..

I would keep your stock exhaust and try moving the clip on the needle and/or move up one or two jet sizes. I put on a dual stage unifilter, moved the clip, and went up one jet. Works great for me.

Re: Assorted tech questions..

Got any close ups of your breather line and filter setup? I've found some examples online but most the time its hard to see what is going on with the breather lines. I just dont want to mess anything up or lose any power engine wise. Since I went to the big bar setup I hate the key location since I removed the kill switch. It's a PITA to get too in a hurry.

Re: Assorted tech questions..

You could always just get an aftermarket kill switch, and keep the ignition in the same place.

Takegawa makes an air filter that has a tube for the crankcase breather.

Re: Assorted tech questions..

I moved my key to the left side behind the air filter in that hole. I just filed a groove for the key and popped it in.

I didn't cut the stock location off yet but i'm going to.

Re: Assorted tech questions..

i have my key there and i used to have a KN, it fit great, worked good, i switched to a Twin air foam, and its ReAL long, but it Just fits, it works great, i would go with a foam filter, just when u move ure key push it thru the hole where its at, then put it in the other one, put some JB weld and ure done
