Cheap bar riser fix review/install
Cheap bar riser fix review/install
Me, being the thrifty person that I am, didnt want to spend a lot of money on a full bar riser kit right now. I decided to purchase the "High Riser" bar fix kit off of 50ccracing.com. This mod isnt for everyone, but if your looking for a cheap/easy way to make your fiddy more ridable this is a good one.
First of all, Jeff has GREAT customer service. He answers any questions you may have, and he ships promptly. Its nice to get service like that these days.
The kit itself was $35 shipped. It took about 2 days to recieve it. All you get is the metal bracket and the nuts and bolts. Instructions wouldnt have been a bad idea, but they are on the site where you order from so its not a huge deal. Not to mention the install is cake!
Tools required for install.
-A pair of Channel Locks wrench for removing the cap on the carb.
-A 12mm wrench/socket for the stock nuts.
-A 13mm wrench/socket for the new nuts.
-A #8 Allen wrench for the new bolt. (If I remember correctly.)
The first thing you need to do is reroute the Throttle cable so that it runs down the right side of the frame. Be sure to run it between the the fork tubes then down the right side of the frame. This will prevent binding when you turn the bars. To just unscrew the cap from the carb use the Channel Locks, mine came loose really easy. Pay attention to how the spring assembly comes out of the carb! If you dont it may take you several minutes to get it back in properly. I can tell you this from experience. Once you have installed the cap. Twist the trottle to make sure it moves properly. If you didnt install the spring assembly properly the trottle wont twist back, also make sure it springs back shut. I rerouted the cable a few days before the kit came. If you wait until you get the kit it will probably be a little easier to install the cap after the kit is isntalled.
To install the kit, just remove the two nuts from the bottom side of the triple tree. Just flip the bars forward to give your self room to install the bracket. Install the bracket with the curved side mounted to the triple tree. This is really obvious when you look at it. I found it easier just to hand tighten everything first then once the bars are mounted tighten everything down.
Now for my thoughts. This is an awsome mod for the money! They say it will withstand serious abuse. I doubt I will be getting big air anytime soon, especially until I get some suspension. I was doing stoppies and wheelies and didnt feel the bars flex at all. There is plenty of room. I can now turn the bars without them hitting me in the knees. I was even riding standup wheelies. Definately not something you could do with the stock setup. It moves the stock bars up 1.5 inches and forward 1.5 inches.
I highly recommend this mod for anyone on a budget. If you have to share the 50 with your son or daughter this mod is perfect! You can switch it back to stock in less then 5 minutes!

Re: Cheap bar riser fix review/install
This bracket seems pretty strong. Ive been doing wheelies and stoppies with it, and I havent felt it flex at all. Im definately not the smoothest at either. I doubt it would hold up well to big air, but then again neither will the stock suspension. I think the stock bars will bend before the bracket does.
This plate is a great idea for guys with kids, that need to revert back to stock configuration for Jr. to ride. Though I dont have this problem.

Re: Cheap bar riser fix review/install
If I had the tools and such to do it, I probably would have to. Though, for $35 its already been tested and I dont have to do anything but take 5 mins to bolt on. So I ask myself would it really be worth it.
Re: Cheap bar riser fix review/install
I really dont think the problem is the height for me.. but its the fact they are too close and hit my knees.. So ill just cut out a piece of straight metal 4x4 with 1.4 in holes 3/8 from each side. 3 1/4in apart and that should get them forward 3in and up maby 1/4 to a 1/2 cause of the angle of the forks. Will be simple and hopfully effective.. Hey i might just make a few and throw em up on ebay for $15 dollars shipped lol. steel =free electricity to run plasma cutter drill press and bench grinder $.50 so it would be well worth it and i think they will work good and ill make them out of 1/4 in steel a bit heavy but i guarantee they wont bend. Ill grind it smooth and throw on some flat black paint !! You can sell anything on ebay heh

Re: Cheap bar riser fix review/install
I got the bracket. Been using iy for about a month. It's strong as hell & doesn't bend. I flipped a few stoppies so the basrs are bent to hell now, but the bracket's fine. I'm buying a BIG BAR kit cuz the stock bars suck. What's the use ofthe riser, if ya gotta buy new bars all the time!? Mine are getting flat. That's why they're getting replaced. The braket's fine, if you don't think you're gonna flit it. Okay, I'm done...gonna
now, then dream about wheeled-bitch magnets

Re: Cheap bar riser fix review/install
I agree with you. The stock bars do suck. I actually bought a big bar kit already too. It had nothing to do with the bracket, the bracket worked flawlessly. When I buy my wifes fiddy she will get the bracket. Im to rough for that crappy stock bar.
Re: Cheap bar riser fix review/install
i got that fixup, and one day while riding, it sorta fell apart, i stripped my tripple clamp, its loose constantly, ordering a big bar kit soon. theis is a great setup tho, just i dunno what happend with mine. .
