Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

what's the dilly with the stock carb and exhaust mod's? i've heard they exist but no nothing about them. do they make a noticable difference? i'd imagine the carb has a restrictor plate in it that could be removed, but i have no idea what the exhaust mod could be. someone please enlighten me....

btw i have an 04crf

Re: Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

no carb mods out there that are worthwile... jokermachine.com sells a silly plug to get rid of the choke feature (they claim it adds more power), anything other than that is jetting and tuning, it's just a small carb that's all, lots of kids get filters and rejet but i don't like the idea of an open filter/no box (just sucks in dirt and sounds like 'bOOOOp'). for exhaust lots of kids are removing the stock spark arrestor by cutting it off of the endcap and putting the cap back on, but i don't think it's even worth you're time b/c i have never noticed any difference when putting a friends endcaps on my bike - feels the same to me, plus it makes a horrid tinny sound (sounds like ****). as far as i'm concerned there aren't any cheap, worthwhile mods to make more of power outta a fiddy, gotta pay to play...

Re: Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

I put a 60 main jet and unifilter on mine and picked up a little. Not much but worth the twenty bucks a jet and filter are gonna cost.

Re: Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

Alright....I just did a bunch of free mods to my fiddy and you CAN feel the difference. I can beat my friends w/ stockers with ease. All of these mods cost nothing...

-Take off airbox. Take it apart and rip out the screen thing in it. Drill holes in the metal thing after the opening for the air (you will know what im talkin about when u see it) Drill holes in the plastic piece by the opening. Cut off the opening.

-Take the choke off the carb. You never use it anyways. Use a bolt a little bigger than the opening of the hole the choke came out of to seal it shut. You should probably lock-tite it in, but mine's stayin so far.

-Take off the intake manifold thing. The end going to the head has a smaller opening than the opening in the head. Take a dremel and grind the hole bigger.

-Take off the exhaust and look at the header end. If you feel in there you can tell that there is a weld that can be grinded down to be the same size as the rest of the pipe.

-Take off the end cap. Drill some holes in the cap thing on the end by the screen thing. When i did this mod i also shoved some fiberglass insulation inside the first "section" of the pipe where it wont effect the air flow. You have to put it in there with an opening to fit the end cap in. I did it to see if it would make it quieter and i dont know if it did but o well.

-Now you will be flowing more air so you will need to rejet the carb. I raised the needle by puttin it on the slot second from the bottom. I probably also need a bigger main jet, but it runs ok now. Ill try it later.

Have fun

I did all of the above last week and it made a huge difference. Although I have a K&N filter and I cut off the spark arrestor altogether

I was very worried about noise, but it really isn't bad at all... I cut it about 1" past the arrestor and into the silencer

Re: Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

When you remove the choke do you just thread a bigger bolt in or do you tap it for the bigger bolt?

I just screwed in a bolt layin around and it seems to be stayin. With the choke off it should be flowin more air. It still starts easy.

When you say you turned it out 1/4 turn.. is that from the stock position or is that from all the way in?

Re: Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

alright i just did all of the mods listed above. took bout two hours... and man was it worth it...i got a pod filter at the local shop but i have on question for those with one... what did you do with the crankcase vent that was hooked up to the air box post filter? i just left mine for now but i think that im gonna try and rig it so that it is sucking in filtered air as opposed to unfiltered. what are you guys doing with it?

Re: Stock Exhaust/Carb Mod???

oh yeah i found one more thing that you can do

-take off the baffle and shine a flash light in the exhaust, there is a screen in there. i bashed mine with a long pry bar and hammer until it was gone. i dont know if it made a difference but its peace of mind to know that the exhaust is completely clear meow.

good luck guys
