Do I need a clutch?

I picked up my '03 in March with a chromoly frame, 88cc, bar kit, and seat for $600. I re-built the motor because the kid before me beat the dogsh1t out of it and it barely ran. Now it runs like a top... except that it doesn't throw the front wheel up like everyone talks about with their 88's... I couldn't clutch it up in 3rd if you pointed a gun at me. It's a Takegawa Hyper S-Stage 88cc. My gears are 14/34. Do I need a clutch?

Hard to say. Does the bike power up okay? Are the valves adjusted correctly? (very important)

yeah, valves are fine, starts on the first kick, runs like a top. it can pick up the wheel pretty much only in first. It just doesn't have the "kick" that everyone talks about.

Re: Do I need a clutch?

you probably need a clutch... mine is getting there, but it still clutches up in second and throttles up in 1st and 2nd with no tug needed (third needs a kinda big pull, and it never clutches up in third). Best bet is to just get a Trailbike HD clutch... it's only 50 bucks and it'll handle more than all the abuse you can dish out.

Good call, Fab is the man and he has great prices. He's also a hell of a 50 mechanic so if you have any questions he can definitely help you out.

Well this might sound dumb , but if you still have the stock rear sprocket , try it .

I don't think it will solve your 3rd gear clutch up problems . It might give ya a little more torque though .

I don't think that's the problem. I run 15-34 sprockets on my stage 2 88 kit and it's perfect. Most everyone I know runs 15-34 for stunting with an 88 kit. Bike comes up no problem in any gear.
