i might be in trouble please help
i have a 2001 r6 and i cleaned and ioled the airfilter like the manual said. but now when i start the bike and i ride it for about 15 mins it smokes real bad. i know its from the oil dripping from the airfilter. guys will this hurt anything? what should i do? will it stop it on its own? i know burning oil is not good for the plugs but i was going to change then in about 1K miles! please help!

How much oil did you put on the filter? Was it "filter" oil? On my bikes I use K&N filter oil and sometimes PJ1 spray on filter oil. Don't apply too much or you'll get the symptoms that you've desribed.
Take the filter back out, wring the excess oil out - or better yet, clean it and start over being careful not to over oil. While the filter is out, try to mop up as much oil as you can get to. Use a cotton cloth shop towel - paper towels can leave behind torn pieces if you're not careful.
Assemble the parts and start it up. It'll probably smoke for awhile until all of the excess oil is burned. Shouldn't hurt too much unless it's totally soaked - then you might need to clean injectors / jets. Burn the oil out, install new plugs and you should be okay.
I really doubt that it's going to mess stuff up very much.
Good luck!

You definitely used too much oil!
Also, word of advice for anyone: don't use gasoline to clean the filter. It's a solvent.
Also, another aside: don't ever switch to a K&N filter. Best filter for the R6 is stock.
