How Much $$$$ to build a crunchy piece?

Hey Guys, just wondering how cheap some of you bought or built your bikes?

I am looking to get something together...it's gonna be crunchy for sure.

I was thinking of finding a salvaged bike and working from there. My mechanical skills are somewhat limited though when it comes to things like the internals of the engines, so it would be best if I started with something with a running engine. Like I said, I'm not going to make the bike a show winner, crunchiness is okay but it has to be inspectable.

Just curious.

Take care.

try to stay away from salvage, you gotta make it pretty to inspect it, pretty means mint body kit etc... try to find someone with a clean title bike with no insurance or they dont want to claim the crash, the price will be as high as you want it to, the old school RRS will run ya about 3 gs while 2002 bikes will run you about 7

I picked up a 97 Gsxr 750 for $1800. Total, including the bike, and it looked good, $2900. It had a salvage title. The bike doesn't have to be pretty at all. My friend got his inspected and it was still all rashed up. Just have working turn signals, horn, headlights, bright and low beam, taillight and break light. The guy who inspected my bike made sure the cluster lights all worked as well. Including turn signal indicaters and high beam indicators.

each state has diffrent salvage inspection rules northeast is diffrent, you can claim residency in maine all you have to do is let them check the vin number to inspect the bike

Thanks guys...I really want to get something built so I can at least try it out and see what I'm missing.

I'm not sure what the laws are here in VT, but I'd imagine that as long as you have working lights and etc. it will be alright.

I would like to find one without a salvage title though...that would be great.

Not much to choose from here in VT.

Thanks guys.
