Angry Running problem

can somebody help me? I have an older Fzr 600 thats been acting up on me. Ill be riding and my lights go dim and the bike runs like crap. when the lights go dim i have no power and the bike wants to die. when this happens, ill shut the bike off when im riding and pop start it back up again and it will be fine for a little bit. If i were to stop when it does this, it wont start back up again like my battery is dead but if i stop when the lights are ok, it seems to be fine. Anybody else ever have this problem? any help would be great. thanks

That sounds exactly like what happened to me when my stator fried. If you have a manual for your bike, get a multimeter and check the output voltages with the bike idling at 5K rpm on the stator. If you dont have a manual, you might have to call a dealer to tell you what pins to test and what the correct output voltage should be.

a stator is a small genorator/alternator that makes power for your electrical system. If it is gone there are companies that rebuild them. I had my old xr600 stator rebuilt for 120$ with shipping. But I would test every thing before buyig parts. When I was having electric problems on that xr I bought a lot of parts I did not need before I found the problem so test every thing-goodluck

ive done some looking into it and ive heard that the stator is either good or bad and no in between. is it possiable that the voltage regulator is the problem?

yea, it does get hot all the time. but it doesnt take that long to act up. it takes maybe 10 minutes of riding to get it to that point. I cant even touch the metal around the damn thing. My battery conecctions are also clean and tight. with your help, i might be able to get to the bottom of this thing. im deffinatly not paying a mechanic $65 an hour to figure it out.
