Steering dampener question
Steering dampener question
I just got a used Shindy steering dampener for my 96' RR. I installed it today and the handling was worse, actually I was struggling to keep the thing going in a straight line. The dampener seemed to make it swerve right to left even on the lightest setting. Has anybody else ever had a problem like this. I don't think I could have installed wrong.
.....,did it come with directions?
mine came with directions and they had a misprint and photo in the shindy directions and I called them and they said oops...we made a messuring mistake ! and the photo is wrong, and Im like nooooo $hit! But anyway when mine wasnt on right it didnt work for $hit......but its hard to tell unless someone looks at it

Cant find my destructions
The bracket that mounts to the fork tube should be turned in 10-15 degrees. The 10-15 is a startpoint..adjust from there so the bars will turn full lock to lock. Adjust the height of the clamp so the damper is level (doesnt have to be) and it clears everything with no binding. The threaded adjustment heim joint on the bracket that mounts to the fairing is just to move it away from the steering head if need be.
I know my bike felt funny like yours till I got used to it. I ran mine full stiff all the time.

thanx for the pictures they're a big help. I think I know what my problem is. Check out where the clamp is mounted on my tube in the middle and yours is near the end. Do you think this could cause a problem?
I just got your message. I'm gonna try it tomorrow with with it set up like yours. It looks like it makes more sense like that. The only reason there might be a difference is cause mine is a 96.I'll let you know how it works tomorrow. You were a big help Bro
ok, I just got done test driving it with it set up just like yours and its F'ing perfect. I can't thank you enough bro. If you didn't post those pics I probably would have thrown the thing in the F'ing garbage. If you're ever in NorthEast Pa, you drink for free my friend. Peace
yep! wether its right or left make sure that your "steering" bottoms on its stoppers ... NOT the damper bottoming out in the tube (where the clips and seals are) if its too close to the tube one way or the other, just loosen the tube clamp, and slide the tube untill it has room on each side when its turned right and left, and when the tube clamp is tightened make sure its not over tightened, the clamp that holds the tube has to be tight, but dont over tighten it! hope this helps,I'll try and get 2 more pics of it turned all the way right and left ....
