oooh ya, maybe going THROUGh the swingarm bolt??

That would probably be good, for a added brace.. But I still like using the subframe mount, so I can use grade 8 bolts that wont bend quiet as easy

When I had a sick innovations cage, I went through 4 all threads in about 6 months!

yeah exactly thatīs what I meant, cause that swingarm mount is one of the stiffest points on the bike and will def take mor abuse than the subframe mount!
but hey it looks good so far, so just test it out and let us know how it works

You realy destroyed 4 all threads? wow, never had a problem with mine...

ya I had a rough time learning =\

The first one lasted about a month before it bent, then I droped it hard and it snapped the end right off..

Then a friend got me more for free from his work, and it snapped even quicker.. but it might have been a hair smaller then what sick innovations sent

but now that you mention the swingarm bolt, I think if i ever weld on more bars and turn this into a full cage, im gonna add a mount there.. Definitely sounds like it would be REALLY strong

Hopfully the deisng I have works.. If it'll hold out for 6 months I'l be happy, and build another one this winter

Don't waste your time. Tygersharkcages.com
Buy one stunt cage for 375 and its warrantied for life period.

Your frames gonna bend with that setup. Props for trying yourself I don't have the patience for that.

$350

I make $12 a hour at my job, thats 30 hours at work..

Or about 4 hours in the garage, and $20 in supplies....

I don't enjoy work, I do enjoy working on my own stuff though...

Why do you say my frames gonna bend? My design is a pretty close copy to a MXD cage...
btw I learned everything I know with a STUNT AID cage.. So I'm pretty sure this deisgn should hold up to my abuse

edit: dont get me wrong though, I don't think my design is SUPER strong.. But I think its at least as strong as mxd...

I'm still considering adding bars underneith, to make it a full cage.. But that wont be tell after this weekend if I do go that route

The small pipe is 1 1/8" dunno how thick, and i dunno about hte big pipe, need to measure when I get home

What you mean slide upward?? The main support on the cage is longer then a FI cage, stunt aid, and a sick innovations... So if a SI cage rolls onto the bars, this one will take a little MORE to roll onto the bars

edit: yup cage is definitely a shin buster

but oh well, it was my first shot at a cage, and it'll work for now.. Just gonna have to wrap it in pipe insulation, and remember to wear shin pads! lol..
It isn't any worse then my stunt aid cage though.. stunt aid felt just the same against my shins

Re: Started work on a homemade cage..

looks pretty good, you should copy tygershark and use a spring behind the slider

Looks very extreme!!!
Its not like your gonna be putting bike on its cage all the time anyway, youve done most the crashing bits, its just odd drops out of circles now, so i dont think you will have any problems?

Haven't got much done yet, but figured I'd post pictures..

The small tubing is extremely thick, about twice as thick as any other cage I have seen... It's a little rediculous, but im tired of smashing cages!

There wont be a cross bar on my cage.. The red lines indicate where I'm adding tubes to

if u bring the point where it meets by the bottom of the stator cover down a little further it should be alright. and that subframe mount is more than strong enough so your thinking was correct on being able to use a grade 8 bolt compared to a shitty allthread

Those front mounts you are using are very flimsy. I remember Kendall bending them with a 3 point MXD cage a few years back and having a hell of a time dropping his motor.

if i were you that would be my next move, that will tie both sides together making it stronger and spreading the impact of a crash across a larger surface area.

my homeboy had a tygershark looking cage that had sliders w/springs at all 3 points of his cage (2 up top and 1 on the lower corner of the triangle), i thought it was a brilliant design upgrade.

that happened to me with my 2nd F4i i had to use 2 pry bars to drop the motor and use a portapower (hydraulic wedge) to get the new one back in.

Re: Started work on a homemade cage..

just dug this up and wanted to comment on it. the only thing i would do besides bend the tube into the sub frame mount for more clearance is move the two connecting pipes out to the tip of the main pipe. that way if you break a slider and want to still ride it wont dig in real bad when you lay it down. plus i wouldn't worry about the front motor mount bending cause its not taking any impact its just a brace. other than that it looks good for the first timer good job.
