Started work on a homemade cage..

Started working on a new cage for my bike..

Haven't got much done yet, but figured I'd post pictures..

The small tubing is extremely thick, about twice as thick as any other cage I have seen... It's a little rediculous, but im tired of smashing cages!

There wont be a cross bar on my cage.. The red lines indicate where I'm adding tubes to

ya I know that. But I'm adding a extra mount that not many people use, and I figure if I make it so it wont bend, it wont tweak my motor mounts around.

ya thats the design I'm kind of following

It's kind of a copy of a MXD and a tygershark

I WAS gonna build a cross bar, but once I realized how thick this tube was I got, I think it would be way to heavy have a cross bar

I think it's gonna work.. Hell I've made it this far with a STUNT AID cage!

As long as its close in strength to a mxd/tygershark/SI, then i'll be happy.. :YEAH

haha nah, the end of the steel pipe, I have a piece of flat steel that I shaped into a circle with my grinder, and welded on

Btw working with my limited tools, sure makes cage building time consuming! lol.... I got a chop saw, a sawzall, bench grinder, angle grinder, drill press, and a welder...

Re: Started work on a homemade cage..

you don't need all those bars underneath. Just make it a 3-point cage and it'll be more than strong enough.

I'm just wanting this thing to be strong as ****

I dunno if the tubes underneith are REALLY necessary... But I was kind crossing a tygershark/mxd cage in design, and I want it to be strong as hell

I figure if the main support (the big tube) bends, then the lower tubes could still protect the stator cover

Tomorrow I'm going to try to finish the cage up.. I'll just have to see how it goes

Re: Started work on a homemade cage..

Blah, due to time constraints, and the fact that fitting tubing together takes forever with an angle grinder, I think its just gonna be a 3 point cage just like a MXD..

I gotta go out of town tomorrow with my bike to stunt... And the only way I can get my cage fully welded, is to give it to my friend tonight to take to work tomorrow..

So it MUST be done today.. And im about 1 hour away from completing a 3 point design.. But I think how I WAS gonna build it, would take another 4+ hours (yes im slow)

So 3 point it is! Hopefully its strong enough..

edit: heres some pics of the one side..

Ghetto? yes.. Effective? I hope so..
Btw I have some derlin sliders imma put in it

Re: Started work on a homemade cage..

better wear shin guards cuz it looks like those rear mounts are gonna take chunks out!

i'd bend/curve the pipe and weld it directly to the flat plate, then you won't need the 2-3 inch pipe sticking out on the mount and you won't dig bone when you shin it

I was gonna have my friend take it to his dads shop to bend the pipe, but I need it done TODAY or I can't ride this weekend while im out of town =\

But oh well, imma just wrap the pipe in pipe insulation, it'll be kind of like my old stunt aid in regaurds to shin bashing!

Re: Started work on a homemade cage..

looks good but why didnīt you use the swingarm hole in the back, itīs much stronger than the point you chose.

Because I don't know where to get a longer swingarm bolt, and I can get longer subframe bolts from my local hardware store

Not to mention, all cages for f4i's connect to either the subframe bolt, or the rear motor mount bolt.. But I don't like using the rear motor mount bolt, because you can only use all thread, which sucks *** cause it bends and breaks WAY to easy

although I gotta admit, connecting it to the swingarm pivot bolt was on my mind.. I just don't know how to go about it without getting a longer one
I think that would be SUPER strong, but eh, too hard for me lol
