Fork Seals!

Hey all, I was just curious how long you all ride once you notice a fork seal leakin? I guess I set a few wheelies down to hard and ruptured one of my seals. I already bought 2 new ones, I am just curious if you all continue to ride with them, or change them immediately? And on a second note, do you/can you use a front stand when changing them to make it easier? Or do you hang the bike or use a jack? I have never changed a fork seal b4, so I am just curious which way is easier. Thanks all

Curt

This is funny as I just changed mine.
I was out at the practice road last week and noticed
that the right fork was wet with oil.
Didnt look so bad so I pushed it for about 4 dayz.
Then I noticed the endos were getting even worse.
Then one night while parked at the local hangout
there was a decent size puddle on my tire.
It was then that I decided to change them.
The bike is rideable no doubt, but it will get worse and
lets face it, the amount of shiat we do on these things you need
every aspect (mechanically) of your bike working properly.
Its a pain but replace it.
Cheers
SK

get a manual..they are not that hard to change. You will need a fork seal driver though. If u have or know somebody with access to a lathe make a seal driver out of aluminum 3" long with an inner diameter of 1.781"(.01" over 45 mm) and an outer diameter of 2.15". Use a piece of steel pipe as a slide to drive the seal in. I think the driver is like 60 -70 bucks if u buy it. Send me a PM if u can make it and dont want to spend the $$ to buy 1.

I just did my fork seals today, I used a rear stand and held the front up with a engine hoist. My forks were almost completly out of oil.

You dont have to use one, but it makes it a lot easier, with the driver its esier to drive the seal in straight. It can be done without it will just take a lot more time and effort.
