Question Fork seals

I have a 1997 900RR and i blew the front fork seals sittin wheelies down to hard. Will it hurt the forks if i keep stuntin on them till i get them fixed. I am still learning to ride wheelies so i chop the throttle a little to much also do yall have any pointers on that. Thanks alot

I know Laura has been riding with a blown fork seal for almost a year now. I still don't see how she is pulling stoppies on that thing. Probably not the safest thing in the world, but then again what we do isn't either. However, it is kind of like adding fuel to the fire though. I know that is one thing I would want fixed on my bike.

well, it wont hurt the shock normally, but if you are coming down that hard then without fluid you are going to bottom it out hard and that will cause damage. also you are leaking fluid onto your front brakes and maybe tire which is horribly unsafe. fork seals cost about 20$ for a set, and it might take an afternoon for you to put htem in. i did it on my 929 and i helped my friend do it on his 95 900rr.

about your wheelies, you shouldn't be coming down that hard. when you are going to set it down, let it start to come down then slowly roll on the throttle so that you are adding power to the bike as it comes down, that softens it. i haven't even come down hard enough to blow a seal and that's dropping it from a 12 so you must be coming down hard.

I have had mine fixed 3 times now and either one blew or they both blew in less than a month. It is hard as hell to do stoppies with blown fork seals. I have been riding this way for quite awhile now and just recently my one blown fork seal finally stopped dripping fork oil that used to get all over everything, the first thing it will cause major problems for is stoppies. I probably am causeing other damage but I am waiting for a great deal on some new/used forks. After this past weekend stunt event I relized I just blew my other fork seal 3 up stoppies are not good on the fork seals. I guess I was lucky on my 929 to get 32,000 miles on it without blowing the seals and now I can't get 1,000 miles without blowing 1.

Unhappy

I busted my right fork seal landing a 12 0'clock DIRTY style. My brake, rim, and fairing looks like a dog pissed on it

I blew the fork seal's on my brand new 600 3 week's after I got it.At that time I was doing only power wheelies.I never fixed it...couldn't even tell it was blown.I put 750 fork's on it now....and stall alot doing 12's and come down hard, don't have a problem yet.My boy jay blew his seal's on his 1000 and rode 4 awhile and it wore his tire funny as hell....first front tire I saw with cord's showing.

blown fork seal's will mess up endo's 4 sure....and I'm sure wheelies will mess it up sooner or later
