Re: Deisel vs. Gas

get a older ford 7.3 not the 6.0 if you go ford. the newer 6.0 have problems blowing head gasket. I have a dp-tuner on the fly for a chip and it is the best thing ever for the fords :YEAH All i do is oil changes and it runs fine. i have changed the fuel filter once and it was 26.00. Mine makes around 450-500 h.p and about 850 lbs tq. plus the newer trucks can tell as soon as you chip them and void warranty. But 2009 they are going to have a v6 diesel F150 that makes around 375 hp and 550 lbs of tq :YEAH

i get about 18-20 city and 22-24 hwy with 6 inch lift and 37" tires on 20's

An average oil change will jump to $50-100 depending on what type of oil you use (i use delvac1500 $8/gallon)... these engines take 15 QUARTS on a fill up. And the oil filter is $20.
My answer to that is spend $500 once with a remote bypass filtration kit ... I'm buying that in the next couple months and dropping some synthetic in there - then you only need to change oil every 10k miles

The head gasket thing was only on the early 03' 6 liters.... they changed the head bolts in 05' and the problem went away....

I have a 7.3 as well on my 01' and the 6.0 SMOKES it all day long.... I hate drivin the 7.3 now... it feels like a slug.

I've got an Edge tuner/monitor and on level 3 all the time since about 5k miles... now have almost 40k and my foot is to the floor EVERYWHERE. Never a problem besides buyin new rear tires.

Got factory 20's and literally HAVE to put it in 4wd to keep the rears from spinning off the line. :YEAH

Oh and I get 12mpg city at best.... i dont' know how all you calculate your milage but the factory computer is waaaaay off if that's what you're goin by...

I've only experienced 2 diesels on a daily basis (at my job) and BOTH Were peices of ****!

Ford power stroke, and a chevy duramax, WHAT ******* JUNK!

Both were newer (2003+) both needed a fuel filter EVERY MONTH or they would NOT RUN!

MANY days after work we would be sitting there, cranking on the engine FOREVER, and it just woudn't start.. End up getting home late because we gotta change the fuel filter, and use ether to get them started...

I dont get it though, SOON as we replaced the fuel filter, they started up instantly... Yet our bobcat and backhoe, always ran, around hte clock, 8-12 hours a day, and never needed the fuel filter replaced
its because they it was a powerstroke and duramax.......we have both at work and there both alright trucks but since iv had my license iv owned nothing but dodge cummins and you cant beat the power and dependability of one..........

my homeboy built a cummins for his 2001 dodge, had comp cams custom grind a cam for him, had JE make the pistons, the whole nine. that was one of the fastest street vehicles i have ever been in, we used leave mustangs and camaros in black clouds all day.

Re: Deisel vs. Gas

The 1st generation 6.0's had problems.... just as did the 1st run of 7.3's. It always takes a little time to work the bugs out. As I'm sure there's gonna be problems w/ the new dual sequential turbo 6.4's.

After late 04 the 6 liter has be smooth w/ out many problems.... check out any powerstroke msg board... the bugs are gone. That's why I grabbed an 07' instead of a new 08'.... (although I hear the 08's pull like a muthafucka bone stock).

But i will agree (being a big diesel fan), Cummins makes a REALLY good engine.... it's too bad they only put em in Dodge's.
