fawk.. f4i wont stay in 2nd gear

Damn.. My f4i wont stay in 2nd gear any more..

When I try to clutch it up in 2nd, it just pops into neutral, or if I get on it hard in 2nd, around 8-10k rpm it just pops into neutral...

Any chance its a HALFWAY easy fix? Maybe take a side case off and replace shift forks or somthing???

Or am I ****ed and need to take the top end off, and the crank out, to remove the tranny????

I have no idea how a f4i motor is built

I'm thinking it's a complete tear-down. I really don't know of any inline-four style engine where it's not one honestly.

well you got to pull the engine. no you don't need to take the topend apart, but you do need to split the botom of the case. it's not that bad if you have some mechanical ability and a shop manual, some money and some time, should only take you about a day when you have all the parts.

ok that dont sound too bad

I'v worked on a few small engines, rebuilt a blaster engine, installed a tranny/88 kit on a fiddy, and of course a 5hp briggs motor...

I just knew that on a fiddy, you HAVE to remove the top end and crank to get the tranny apart, I was gonna be pissed if that was the case with the f4i..

Guess I got a project to take care of this winter.. Along with a new cam chain tensoner
