they are not to heavy and good to accomadate a short person. but in my opinion if she is learning to ride go with a older model like a f2-f4....not to expensive and still small. They are good learning bikes. like i said any smaller and shell be bored... most people on the 250 in a class get bored let alone it being your bike...as for the gs500 they are not bad looking but i wouldnt get her that either
ps get her a good bike so she wont be mad at ya.

To those who lowered, did you do Front and back?
Just curious to all those that have lowered their bikes, did you lower the front of the bike(raising the forks upward through the triple clamp) as well?? What are the ill affects you have noticed by lowering the bike if any. Here is a link to a lowering link kit maker that claims 7 inches of adjustability. Pretty interesting. I have also heard of shaving down the seat foam and re-applying the seat cover, has anyone tried this also??

I got this from Buell's website:
Introducing the 2003 Lightning Low XB9S, a new model with a 1.5-inch lower seat height than the standard Lightning® XB9S. The Lightning Low delivers uncompromised street performance in a package that will be more comfortable for a shorter rider.
The Lightning Low XB9S has a seat height of just 28.6 inches, achieved by altering the front and rear suspension and reshaping the seat pad. The Lightning Low retains the responsive handling and exhilarating performance of previous Buell models. This bike offers the same lean styling and advanced design features found on the innovative Buell Lightning XB9S, including:
Fuel-in-the-frame
Oil-in-the-swingarm
Zero Torsional Load front brake
92-horsepower, 984cc air-cooled, 45-degree V-Twin engine with Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection
The new Lightning Low XB9S will be available in Buell dealerships in February with an MSRP of $9,995 (except CA).
Pretty cool bike!

My wife has an 02 sv650s. We lowered the front 19mm and the rear about 1.5 inches, she is 5'3" like 120, so she is pretty little.
I have the schematic for the lowering brackets and if you want them I will email them to you. I also have a buddy who's father will fabricate them out of carbon steel.
After the lowering I took the bike out and got it up to about 120, dove into some corners and tried to see if there were any ill affects( we did this Friday). The only issue I found was that if I nailed the front brake, like enought that an endo/stoppie occurred I almost was bottoming out on the forks. I'm 210 so I compress things way more than she does.
My 2 cents.....
Chris
