Do you need those little chain tensioners?

I was screwin aorund with my fiddy yesterday and I decided to take some extra pegs I had and put 'em on the back. I wanted to see the look of it, so I took those chain tensioners/adjusters off to get me the extra inch of thread that I needed. The thing looks awesome, and the nut it on the bolt throughly. Can I run it without the adjusters? It's still in my basement right now, but I did a few little wheelies and it didn't seem to move any.

Re: Do you need those little chain tensioners?

Ya after I got the first reply I went down into the evil workshop. Took some really thick nails (almost the diameter of a pencil) and I brought them to the grinder. I ground 'em down to the size i measured, then stuck 'em in front of the axle. Problem solved! Only downside is when I have to adjust the chain. I'm gonna have to grind some new "tensioners". I doubt they'll pop out, but I'm going to clamp them in there just to be safe. They're silver too, so you wouldn't know they were there until you look close up at 'em.

I would do it but if you tightened it enough it should stay, but then you will be overloading it because the swing arm will be so tight that the axel wont spin easily.

umm, your axle isn't supposed to move.

Let me re-fraise that. The swing arm hits the hub/brake and it rubs making it hard for the wheel to spin.

one other option, cut the chain to the correct link size when the wheel is closest to the motor. make sure to leave slack also.
