Keihin 20mm Tuning
OK I just got done riding my
and noticed it was running a little rough so I pulled the plug out and it is BLACK. Anyway I know this means Im running rich and I were working on a Holley or Edelbrock carb I would know what I was doing but these Japanese carbs are so foreign (no pun intended) to me. I keep seeing everyone talking about moving the clip and all that. Is the clip basically the metering rod? If so where is it on this thing and which way do I move it? I plan on going to the dealership tomorrow to get a few jets but I need to know what sizes to look for. I live in DFW tx and have no idea what the altitude is here but all the adjusments and jet sizes are still stock. Also the bike runs like a bat outta hell and has no stumble anywhere unless oyu let it sit for a sec and just open it all the way then it stumbles but I know that is because it is running rich and loading up. Thanks for all the help in advance.

\Unscrew the top peice, where the cable goes in.., you will see the rod coming out the bottom of a round thingy ma jiggy.... it is a pain in the ***, but the spring must be moved off to the side. You do not have to take the cable off.... Once you have moved the spring, remove clip inside, and pull out clip... move the clip up (richer) down (leaner)... This is as I am sure that you know, only off idle.... I hope that helps

k, sporty is *** backwards Lason.
move the clip down to make it richer. (this way the needle cant go into the jet as far) move the clip up to make it more lean (doing so keeps the needle further down into the jet not allowing as much fuel through. and these adjustments make most the differance higher on the revs. to adjust a stumble off idle use the mixture screw. hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Also am I right in assuming to gain acces to the main jet I need to remove the bowl on the bottom? I just put a new set of bars on and took her out and it had NO power. I will start screwing around with her later tonight or in the morning. Thanks again.

yes, by raising the clip it drops the needle further down. take it apart and u will see. if it is running fine but has a black plug, chances are, one notch will make it run perfect. try it out.

OK I messed with the clip and went one higher and got black smoke, went one down and slower response. I messed with what I think is the air/fuel mix and screwed it in a smidge and it wouldnt idle very well, went out and it lost some of its response. I guess its in my jetting. I noticed that it doesnt like to rev from idle too well either. It will bog a little. I am so lost
thats one of teh worst thing to do...mess with more than 1 thing at a time whil ejetting a carb. Get it idlign well, and then move the clip up one..heres a good carb guide...should be the same thing btu this one is for atvs
