Hey I think my threads to my 2001 fiddy may be gettin worn, anyone ever tried using a self-tapping oil plug on their fiddy, or car if they ever stripped their threads???

 

sometimes you can just notch the threads in the plug and that will clean up the existing threads

 

or use a heli coil

 

find someone with a tapping kit first.. run that through should be good unless its really messed up.. helicoils are cool and better than retapping the hole and getting a bunch or shavings in the case... last thing i would do is the selftapping bolts.. if you have to do it ,after screwing it in, get a smaller magnet that will fit in there.. get all the crap out that you can then put some oil through it to try and wash out all that you can and then refill and go.

whats a heli coil, and what does it do? i have the same prblem with my kx125

 

essentially its like the threaded section of a nut with the outer diameter threaded to the size of the factory oilpan threads and the center is drilled out with a slightly smaller tapping(threading).. shuv that thing int he oilpan threads and you have a slightly smaller, but new threads, bolt hole.

 

I've heard heli-coil is good but it can come out of the casting...
