I just picked up this 2001 xr50 today, im stoked. I wanna go through it and do all the necessary mods so i can stunt it and pretty much pimp it out overall. I'm only working with about 150 dollars...maybe a little more so im trying to keep it cheap. I really want to stunt this thing so i can move onto my F4i and not mess it up to much........its got BBR triples/riser....BBR forks, a rear handbrake(no footbrake kinda bummed), an ?Ishock?. Its also got a couple rust spots on the swingarm and the pipe and the shock is squeeky....the front brakes suck on this thing. I am definetly getting a new pipe for it but what else should i get. I am thinking about going through and cleaning the carbs and painting the swingarm and frame but i have never dont anythign like that (also how should i remove the rust? Any good tutorials out there for any of that? Also need to swap out the spark plugs.......I'm on a tight budget so this is what i'm thinking......clutch kit, stunt pegs, street tires, 12 bar, new exhaust, some sort of front brake upgrade? Let me know if you suggest anything else or have something for sale, i wanna be rolling stoppies and highchair wheelies all day

but, I say change the oil, get some street tires, and roll it.

 

If ya money's tight, just learn as is. If ya needs tyres, just street the back for now. Rust - get a wire brush and some brush on chemical (which turns the rust a black color, hameright make some) from wall-mart. Don't wast money on new pipe, whats wrong with clutch??

 

No need for a clutch kit. A manual clutch on the 50, isnt gonna teach u much (for now). You are better off learning on the stock clutch. When u get good with BP and RB control. THEN, myabe oneday u can think of adding a manual clutch (IMO). Dont waste ur time on a new exhaust. The exhaust isnt gonna make a real noticable different, power wise. Plus it will be louder, and its better to be quite. That way u can murder a spot and not have anyone hear u a damn mile away (Stealth mode is best)......12 bar is an idea, but watch out for that thing. Not having any brake control can cause u to bend the subframe with that bar. Plus the bar will get in ur way if u dont know how to get out of its way, LoL.........IMO, id say some rear stunt pegs, street tires, and "maybe" the 12 bar (but the 12 bar is not that important right now)............Oh and lets not foget, u need some 50stunt stickers on that beast, hehe..........PS: Watch those BBR forks. The forks seals are a POS and they will blow out in a matter of no time. They need to be replaced with some stock crf70 fork seals. Then they will be better than ever....=-)

 

good advise respect..id say if your on a budget just start w a set of rear pegs and some gn4 oil in the beast maybe a good carb cleaning,you can learn a million different things w a hb and pegs
