Some basic fiddy maintenance questions
Oil: What's the best way of changing the oil on these bikes? And what weight oil would work best with an 88cc kit?
Chain: I'm used to o-ring chains where you pretty much do nothing to them. These are not o-ring, correct? How much play do I want in the tension? What type of oil should I use to oil it?
Air filter: My carb has a K&N type filter on it. Should I not ride this in the dirt? So far there haven't been any problems. I know K&N provides great airflow but at the loss of protection... I have a K&N filter cleaner + oil spray can kit, how often should I re-oil the filter?
I guess those are all the questions I have for now, just want to make sure everything is done. Can't wait till this summer when I'm making some money and can get some parts for this thing

oil: Take the drain plug out of the bottom of the crankcase and let the oil dry. There is no oil filter in these motors just a lil screen that you can only access by pulling the right side case off of. So just drain the oil and put a full quart of oil back in it. I run a lil over for stunting and put one full quart in. I run amsoil 10w 40. thats what i run in all my bikes but thats personal preference.
chain: use whatever chain lube you want. Go to a dealer and pick one out. I put the fiddy on a bucket and let it idle in first gear so the chain rolls and oil it that way but u can just roll it on the ground and do it which is safer.
air filter: It is fine to ride with in the dirt. Clean and oil it after a couple rides if its dusty. If its not dusty you dont have to do it as often.
Thats it and have fun

thanks a lot guys, i'll have to do that next time it's actually nice out. crappy all week here in MA...
that's the type of air filter, i have, i also have a foam one that the guy gave me when i bought the bike. would it be better to run that?

Make sure you pull the correct drain plug out when you do the oil change . I wouldn't use a whole quart of oil , thats almost double what you need . It's supposed to be a .6 qt .

Re: Some basic fiddy maintenance questions
nope not stock. the guy put on a takegawa kit, i dono if i had a cam with it, said it cost him about $400 or so. thing is plenty fast for me though. what i absolutely LOVE about it is that I can pull the carb off without moving anything. on my old 250 (which had 2 carbs) i had to take off the seat, get the airbox ends off both carbs, which was the biggest pain in the *** ever. this is pull out the throttle cable, disconnect 2 screws from the intake and it's off!
and i'll make sure to measure the oil carefully and then maybe just put in a little bit more.

Re: Some basic fiddy maintenance questions
if by stunting you mean attempting to learn wheelies in my backyard, then yes
haven't broken anything yet, though i did almost ride it through the window of my house...
ill throw a quart of 10w 40 in there when i change it.
