Custom Cage Crossbar
Custom Cage Crossbar
Some how accidentally posted this in service and maintenance. Anyway, So I made/am making this cage for my f2, and I still am going to weld up a top bar where the green is, but I was wondering if I should do a cross bar too? What exactly is it for on most cages? On a FI cage its obviously needed as its the only support on the contacting tube, but on beefier cages where there's already multiple supports, is it necessary? I wouldn't think that it would add much strength being as long as it and not even being a straight across peice, but this is the first cage Ive made so. Orange and red are my questionable crossbars. Also, that top contact post is secured to the frame, its just there to help prevent rolling onto the bars. It doesnt hit at the same time as the lower post. So I assume I need one type of support for the main contact post.
Thanks,

Re: Custom Cage Crossbar
Do just the orange ones. Green isnt needed IMO. Not much force to handle in that direction so itll be ok w/o it. the orange member will transmit some force across. Looks like a great design. I built a cage with a buddy for my f2 and it worked great. Get some huge frame sliders. The engine mounts are very thin so you need to find a way to make sure when the bike is dropped the force of it sliding doesnt rip the engine mounts out.

Re: Custom Cage Crossbar
Thanks, yea, i was thinking today to **** on the green so im glad you said that too. Instead ill do the orange and also a strgiht bar from the bottom bar straight up to where that arch in the frame is. cause when the lay the bike down it wants to push that lower contact bar up hard. So, ill put an almost vertical bar really close to the contacting tube up at an angle to that arch. should be strong as all heck I think.
