130 dollar suspension part 2!

aight i dont know if you guys read the last thread but i was telling you i got forks and swingarm for 130 bucks NEW...forks from a xr70 replica and swingarm from a pw80 replica.

i was scared when it arrived thinking it wouldnt work but overall everything is fine!

swingarm is installed and aligns perfectly...only thing i have to do is shave down the spacer on the sprocket side and extend the brake arm! 2 3/4 inch longer!

forks has to be drilled where the wheel shaft goes in just like the mr50 forks no biggie. and it has to be grinded down a little so the wheel aligns..no biggie...

and the great thing about these forks are they are STIFF and OIL FILLED! just the girth of these forks make the mr50 forks look smaller...

and finally the greatest thing is the BRAKE CABLE holder thats located on the fork tube...mr50 forks are a bitch to rig that up.

ill post more as i go along. swingarm was DONE...now time to grind down and drill the forks but i cant find my grinder anywhere!

Re: 130 dollar suspension part 2!

Yeah those look a lot like the mr50 forks, but the ends where the axl goes in gives it away. So where did you find the swingarm and how strong do you think it is?

You can make the mr50 shocks stiffer fairly easy and cheaply, just ask fab5fiddy about that. But newer would be good. I got a couple broken threads on the mr50 stem so removing it is a serious pain.

Re: 130 dollar suspension part 2!

yea it was thanks to scott and his ingenuity that got me to fab up some mr50 forks almost 6 months ago...

ill try these out for 6 months...it only cost me 130 to my door!

here are some pics..im done for today, kind of tired.
after an hour of grinding...here is the frame work. all i have to do is bolt and align...mount the motor, bars and plastics...oh and i need a master link for the extended swingarm.

only problem i ran into was the swingarm and the brake stopper. thats easy, just drill a hole and put a bolt through...

later! damn tired! ill post when its totally done and then ill ride it and tell you guys whats up.

i need a LONGER SHOCK!!!

Re: 130 dollar suspension part 2!

Looks good. I would like to comment on MR50 forks for anyone having trouble with the front brake. Simply use a hose clamp on the threaded part of the cable onto the fork leg. I did this on mine and it has worked 100% since day one with no re-adjusting. Quick, easy, over looked fix.

Re: 130 dollar suspension part 2!

almost done guys...

aight so the bike is almost complete. dropped the motor, should have cleaned it before i put it in but i was lazy.

THE HARDEST thing was the rear brake...boggled by how i was going to fab a stopper...so i made the easiest one possible. take a look at the pic

overall the bike is coming along and the setup looks to be coming out good. still havent gotten a chance to ride it but itll be done by tomorrow.

all i need is a front bicycle brake cable and im straight.

take a look at the pics and tell me what you think. :YEAH

Re: 130 dollar suspension part 2!

I want to see it with the plastics on...and then i want to order some of those forks. Too bad they dont come with the right clamps. I bet if you kept looking you could find a front end with the right clamps. Those ones must have been for a PW80 frame or something. Now that i think about it, there is a local place that sells some knock off bikes and quads...maybe i will see if i can get some forks though them. I'm impressed with your ingenuity on these parts, and glad to see somebody else trying the PW80 swingarm idea. I dont understand why yours bolted right up and mine didn't. If you could get an XR70 repro. shock from this guy, you would probably be all set as it is an inch longer. Your setup looks really straight and clean though, not ghetto at all.
