music licensing for DVD's
music licensing for DVD's
ok, what do you all do about using music in your dvd's or videos? i'm curious how you go about getting permission or licensing or whatever. It's a little hard to get ahold of all the record companies.
thanks
thanks
um, I think its called "synchronization rights" and they are very expensive, but I found a loophole as to where you dont hafta pay for them and nobody can sue you, but (in britney murphy voice)~ .....Ill never telllllll~
is it just the fact that you don't use a whole song or use only clips?
i didn't know with all the videos i've saw people use songs but i don't think they all took the time to get licensing. we just don't watn to get in trouble with ours.

\be careful with these "loopholes" they pay very geeky lawyers very large sums of money to make sure noone gets a penny from them that they havent given blood to earn (including the artists and song writers). this "loophole" uve found have a lawyer checkk it then take what he says file it away....then have 2 or 3 more lawyers check it (make sure they arent lawyers that practice criminal law or do closings on houses.....get copyright lawyers and intelectual property lawayers and such) trust me the money u spend on the hour or 2 it takes them to check out this "loophole" is alooooooot cheaper than what it may cost u if u get nailed using copyrighted music without paying for it and getting permission!
find music that falls under public domain, or use local artist that are unsigned or on smaller private labels ( ie.. then can use the free publicity ). as far as hit music on major labels, past and present, i doubt there is a forum member here that can afford them.
ya, that's nice but hard to find someone that can do music we want. they all want to do their own thing and not try to bend with us....probalby the reason they don't have a record label

No doubt, but let a 12 year old download a song, and suddenly there's all kinds of legal reps from the music industry calling...
getting in touch with the record companies is easy... just go through a licensing right clearance group.. there are a bunch of them.. but all in all... good luck.. because if the project had the money to behind for these kinds of song, chances are it would have people in the know, and it would be a non issue
