camera and editing help
hey just wondering what kinda cameras and editing software you guys use out there. we're gonna try to start filming next year i want to get something thats good but im not sure i wanna go with an xl1. so lmk thankstravis
Re: camera and editing help
Get something that shoots in both standard 30fps and 24p if you can. Low Light is key man. I went through 4 cameras before landing on the VX2000 and a happy ending. Try to find something that is universal for all shooting conditions.
I edit in Premiere Pro 2.0 . Lots of features, Lots of export methods and capture modes. Its not as user friendly as other programs but you can do damn near anything in it.

Re: camera and editing help
started with the vx2000, then upgraded to the vx2100 and editing on a mac g5 with final cut pro, after effects and all the adobe graqphic programs. you can shop around and look for older 3 chip cameras and the computer you can build it for processing power for your editing. spending a pretty penny is fun sometimes.
Re: camera and editing help
i use a vx 2000 and a gl2 both great cameras but the sony is better in low light and premier to edit small stuff but final cut to make the MASS MAYHEM dvd also check out sony vegas iv'e heard alot of good stuff about that too

Re: camera and editing help
anyone with a camera and a pc/mac can shoot and edit... everyone thinks they are u know the next McG!(insert joke)
Back in the day there was a new stunt video monthly... the market got saturated with crappy ****, those guys are long gone- and thats normal for the industry, but the few have still remained. ITs a cycle like with any other industry......skateboardiing,snowboarding, adult etc etc... I encourage all the videomakers/hobbyists/filmmakers to produce stuff, just as long as the final product is interesting.
Making stunt dvds/films will not make you rich, you might brake even, and get back some of what you invested into manufacturing. But you will never get back the years spent on the project or the countless hours editing, filming, traveling etc. You trully have to love what you do!
Ive been @ this since 2003, have 2 films under my belt and i'm very proud of what i along with the many riders have achieved.
The reason i got into stunt riding/films is because of the Stone brothers, my first dvd i saw was urban streetbike warrios and it just blew my ******* mind. @ that point i said to myslef, i want to do what streetbike warriors did for me, i want some kid to watch my film and say... "holly ****, i want to do this(ride or photo/film)" To me that is very rewarding, having that kind of influence. Every since 03 my goal was to expose non riding people to what we do and its still the same goal now all these years later. I dont necessarly make movies for stunt riders, to be honest i think i might have had 10 people off here actually get a copy of my first and 2nd film. Lol
Mind you, i was into film/photography before that so i didnt just pick up a camera and went @ it, not that there is anything wrong with just jumping into it, i encourage it. Experiment and try new things, be differnt!
LIke i said, as long as your heart is in it, it will show through your project(any project).
have fun!
cheers

Re: camera and editing help
+1 to sat, thats absolutely true. too much saturation. the time will be invested but no monitary value is seen. my parents helped me with my camera and computer ($5-6k package) and i went out and filmed my hobbies. thus being dirtbikes, skateboarding, in-line, and stunts. i obtained my software in high school thru my instructor cause i was becoming more invovled with scooter trash then. from then its history, from me being a camera guy ive met the best riders and earned some of the greatest friends and the memories will run on forever. i make videos for a hobby, but doing stunt videos for the past 5 years it has gotten to my job with car and driver as their video producer. it all comes into play, but wanting to earn it because its your sickness will eat you inside out and its your obsession thru and thru. i like making videos cause i can relate with the sport and you start challenging your self thru editing and filming. the financial set backs are a pain with the helpf of the technology world with software and film equipment. but first steps are sometimes easy and sometimes hard. i just stick with it cause its what i know.
Re: camera and editing help

Re: camera and editing help
final cut pro is a 4 or 5 disc set that comes with cinema tools, live type, motion, dvd studio..etc. but thats depending on what edition your running. it can only be ran on a mac. you need something with some processing power. the g5 is useful for that. i learned on it 7 years ago back in high school and started on FCP2. im on FCP 4.5 HD and FCP 6 at work at car and driver. its an easy interface but i read a little of the FCP book before using it and kept it by my side of my computer to this day. it takes up a good part of your space too, and requires 5 gig to operate. its a easy program to use i think, cause usually there is 2 or 3 ways for to accomplish one function. but its such a vast program also to the point where you can never know enough and sometimes for the most simplistic tasks you still pull your hair out. so its challenging but great in my opinion.

sent you a pm back. If you get my gl2, I'll hook you up with a copy of vegas video pro 8.0

yeah like BeeRad said, final cut only works on macs. I've never got to use one, the program looks cool though.
