best way to cover yer *** is to cover yer ***! get anybody and everybody to give you permission (in writing if u dont trust them with yer money!) to use footage involving them. Also my suggestion as far as music use bands that will signba contract to allow u to use their music. Definatly sign all bands to contract.....chances are if u think a band is good enough to use in yer video then somebody else might too. If that somebody else happens to be a record exec and signs them to a recording deal and said band uses one of the songs yer usin in yer vid to record a record that song becomes property of the label! This is where the probl;ems come in, they told u before they were signed by word of mouth "yeah no prob use these songs" well now they have recorded that song for an album before the vid comes out. You put yer vid out with no contract and bam u have just commited copyright infringement! I know alot of people use copyrighted music and never get bothered but here is the catch, there are distrobution companies out there that will not offer you a distrobution contract without seeing signed written proof that u have permission to use the music (if they dont and they distribute the vid they can then be named in a copyright infringement lawsuit along with you!). So it comes down to this...............if you are makin the vid for fun and dont really believ its onna be good enough to one day make world wide distrobution hey do what u want and take yer chances...............but if u relly believe in yer product dont throw stmbling blocks in yer way. There are plenty of really good unsigned bands that are dying for this kinda exposure u just gotta look for them.

as far as the illegal stuff i dunno use common sence as far as covering plates/faces in those situations i guess!
