well if it turned over slow with the plugs out of it then you didn't get an accurate compression reading

hmmm...that's not too too bad....if any of them were 10% out from one another then you will have an unbalanced crank. and it's not. should still start tho even if it's only 18psi. off......i think ya gotta look elsewhere...****....i'm burning my last brain cell for ya...it's got spark, fuel....check timing.....all the simple stuff for combustion ya gotta get A-O-K'd 1st.

Re: F4i not starting when warmed up

the fact that they are all the same is a good sign that the motor just wasn't turning over fast enough to get an accurate reading , usually if there is a compression problem one cylinder will be alot lower then the rest

It started fast but after holding the start button for a while - 7-10 seconds - it eventually slowed down - I think. I dont know **** about compression tests but Nick does since he's been a bike mechanic for 6 years - I let him do whatever needed to be done and I just sat back and watched but I wasnt paying to much attention to how it started - whether it was fast or slow

yeah he did say the same thing that he was looking for a big difference in at least 1 of the cylinders but again I dont know what else to try. The kid that I got the bike/motor from is gonna come by now on Friday. I was actually gonna drop this motor tonight while I'm looking for another one (got 2 lined up I think) but I'ma leave it alone now since he said he'll come and get it running yea right. I hope he does but we'll see. Where I waited almost 2 months now I could wait a few more days Although its been freezing and I wasnt planning on riding on the highway in the cold anyway but I picked up my truck today and now I wanna ride

it's an FI bike.....it's missing something....crank sensor signal, map signal, tps ......maybe something that will incorrectly cause fuel/air ratio problems....check for spark and injector pulse width. wish it'd be easier dude...wrong year/wiring harness?

if you are telling the complete truth and have checked all the electrical **** and your battery is good then i would try the starter clutch .....

im not saying you are lying about any thing but people tend to say "ya i checked that" when in fact they just don't think thats the problem so they say "ya i checked that" just so they can get to the next thing to check ....

if i were to come to your house i would probably make sure all the basics were functioning correctly because i still think it is an electrical problem not a motor problem but if all that checked out then my next step would be to change the starter clucth because you already have one ...

lol I know most people would say yeah I checked that and this just like you said but Im dying to ride here I did everything I said I did in this thread. The only thing I havent done is what I said I didnt do which is the starter clutch. My boy Chris is a Honda mechanic and said that what my bike is doing has nothing to do with the starter clutch. Nick said the same thing. I should probably swap it before doing a motor swap since I have one already but the only reason I havent is because I got 2 bike mechanics saying it has nothing to do with the starter clutch. I was gonna drop the motor tonight but since the seller wants to come take a look at it Ima just leave it so I may as well do the starter clutch. I dont know But if it was the starter clutch, it would be doing it all the time - not just when the bike gets hot. I wish I knew how to explain what I'm being told but I cant word it the way they worded it and it always comes out wrong lol. When they tell me what they think it is it makes sense to me but when I explain it to someone it doesnt sound like what they said so people look at me funny

As far as I know all F4i's have the same wiring harness I kept my wiring harness which was already on the bike and just changed the motor.

i don't think you can say the starter clutch would do it all the time , if that thing is falling apart there could be chunks of **** in it or there may just be alot of play in some parts

Re: F4i not starting when warmed up

and if you can leave it all in one piece and swap it out it should be a quick test if nothing else it will eliminate it as the problem ....make sure the battery is fully charged when you try to start it after you change the starter clutch

Not that I really know what the **** Im talkin about but it sounds weird that it only does it while hot but not cold. I dont see how that would be the starter clutch then but like you said below at least it'll eliminate a problem.

Ill double check but from what I know everything is the same 01-06 except for the subframe/tail setup

i have had differentials in cars [rear axle gears] go bad and they would work fine for a little bit then they would clunk and bang then they would be fine again , eventually they would start making noise all th etime but not at first

they have different part #'s but thats because the computer & rectifier are located in different spots on the 01-03 then the 04-06 but everything else tied to the wiring harness has the same part #.

wait a sec.....the bike starts cold but stops when hot????? check ur valves!!!!!!!!! when the cams and bucket get hot they expand, could be making the valves crack open just a bit once the engine is hot. my bro had a zx7r...took us forever to figure where the hot miss fire was coming from.....ran minty when cold....
