Re: F4i not starting when warmed up

i think you have either a bad wire or connection and when the motor is hot it pulls more of a load to turn it over and the wire or connection just wont flow the amps needed ....your idle problem is probably another issue completely

yeah i think thats what he was testing with the volt meter. he was shutting off the brake lights and the headlight and seeing if those were drawing more current then necessary. BUT it got to the point now that it doesnt matter hot or cold - it doesnt always start now even when its cold. Like when I brought it to Mikes it didnt want to start even though the battery was charged. And when I got it home it started right up. But when I went outside before it wouldnt start up cold.

Re: F4i not starting when warmed up

i would check the battery terminals really good to see if its all good...after that check all wires that run to the starter bcuz it sounds like a bad connection or broke wire somewhere that gives power whether it be positive or negative

When I replaced the starter motor I swapped both cables that come from it - the ground and the one that runs to the main fuse box or whatever. Happened with the old starter and old cables and with the new starter and new cables. Ive had three different batteries in the bike already so that would take care of the battery terminals Besides that, the cables that connect to the battery are clean.

well that kind of proves it's not the motor then doesn't it ? your buddies theory was that when the motor got hot the piston would expand and thats was causing the motor to seize up , right ?

i like to check bcuz soldered wires break on occasion too but if your that confident then we can move on...have you checked the voltage at the starter
