My cars gonna be big-block STUNNIN'!

I picked up this 428 cj today for my Fairlane. It was built for a cobra kit car when the guy found a (real)427 so. The motors just broken in & makes 400hp & 430tq here at altitude. I also got an oem 428 bellhousing & flywheel & full mallory ign(might swap to msd).

Looks like a 66 fairlane . I would probably spend some money on doing work to the heads getting them to flow better .

Edit : kinda looks like the engine was done up already .

sweet find, how much did you give for it?

so, now that you have the bellhousing and flexplate, are you gonna turn it into a 4 speed? i found this company that makes clutch set-ups for all cars, im buying one for my monte carlo (so i can put the tremec 6speed in it). they come with everything you need to convert your car into a standard, including the pedals.

Re: My cars gonna be big-block STUNNIN'!

I'm just gonna keep the c6 for now(after sealing some leaks) I'm holding out for a tko500 for the right price. Quicktime sells an fe to t-5(tko500) bellhousing. I'm gonna run a hydraulic clutch set up. Just grabbed the picker earlier, gonna paint it tomorrow & buds are helping toss it in sun.

my goal for this weekend is putting the 428 home.... gawd PLEASE let the driver side header not need too much fanagling around steering stuff...

There were a few fairlane 500's that came from the factory with 427's . I think you're gonna have more problems with the shock towers ,
more than the steering parts .

Re: My cars gonna be big-block STUNNIN'!

390.427.428 all are physically the same size(all ford fe's). The driver side collector is in the way, but I'll fab a drop bracket that should fix that.

Re: My cars gonna be big-block STUNNIN'!

I did the driver side while it was almost in place, then undid mounts today & did same for pass. Side. I need to fab that drop bracket before I can steer the car. I'm painting my pullys brackets fan right now! Found a tci built c6 & msd distributor I'm gonna try to get later or tomorrow.

the damn bellhousing is too wide to clear the headers... were gonna trailer it to our buddies shop, then fenagle it in at an extreme angle. :shruggs

they usually are when youre dealing with a car that has strut towers. are you running full length or shorties?

My 67' Chevelle had sooooo much room in the engine bay, putting a big block in would have been like slipping a pencil into a porn star.

fired that 428 up for just a few spurts today and boinggggggggg!

-locate a big block radiator, install & lower hose
-wp to ps pump belt
-rubber trans cooler lines from steel tubes (installed in trans) to cooler
-build fill panels for trunk(ran my trunk batt kit earlier)cardboard & carpet
-ex fabbed up to header collectors
-adj. shifter cable
-finish looming 3-4' of ign. wiring
-rubber mounts for MSD box & run tach out wire
-chop off column shifter & fill
-install 9" & posi 3rd member(when carrier gets here-in transit)
-u joints
-floor it
-body&paint

sure theres 10-15 things im forgetting:LOL

i had the battery in the trunk of my 70 GTO, i needed a jump on time and i told this guy to pull up to my trunk, he insisted that my battery was under the hood and that he pull up to the front of the car. after about 5 minutes of arguing with the guy (not telling him i moved it) i let him pull up to the front of my car, pulled the hood pins and opened the hood. he looks around and says "wheres your battery?" i reply, "ive been trying to tell you that its in the trunk for the last 5 minutes." he says, "that must be some rare factory option," i say "must be can we start my car now."

id still run the box since you already have it (im guessing you ordered the summit kit?), but i would suggest getting one of these-

its still a summit brand box (so its not that expensive), but its their newer style.
