Re: I know its cold but is anyone riding this weekend?

made it yesterday. painting it and putting solid 1 1/2 sliders in it today. :YEAH

**** is HARDCORE. i tig welded it all. no chance of breaking. i also designed it to hit in the middle of the cage so it distributes the impact to both cage bolt mounts (front engine mount, and swingarm pivot mount). its made from all sch40 steel. and i def blew through on almost every weld to ensure 100% penetration. its not a full cage but a stunt/"race" rail design. we built jigs so if you like it we could make you one after i test it over the course of a few weeks. work all the bugs out. so far it looks like its gonna work good. nothing hits and def doesnt seem like its gonna roll at all.

i also used a big flat steel plate for the back mount at the swingarm pivot so that the load would be distributed along the frame spar instead of on the bolts.

im trying to get away from broken engine mount bolts and broken front engine mounts.

bad thing about race rails, is they twist... so you slam it on the side, and it takes the impact, but bends the rail upwards... then you have to cut the damn cage off... so when you lay it over... how far is it from hitting the stator/clutch cover

Re: I know its cold but is anyone riding this weekend?

its about 3/4 inch away. and trust me. its NOT going to flex. if anything the bolts will bend or flex before the tube will. and i can garuntee it. were talking sc40 steel. 1 and 1/4 inch diameter. sch40 at that size is over 1/8 of a inch thick! and the back mount plate was designed to factor in "flex" its 4 inchs long and 3 inches wide. the bolt mount is at the bottom of the plate... the rail is welded to the very top. so naturally the mount bolt would be the pivot point. but since theres the flat plate steel on the frame spar the force that would cause the flex presses on that .... so not only would the bolts have to break and stretch... the rear frame spar would have to cave in.

ill have pics later tonight i think.

flex is a possiblity... but i doubt it.

u can see half of it there. the polypropylene sliders aren't in it on that pic. the front engine mount is where the slider will be and it will hit the groudn the same time the back does. making 2 contact points with the contact point on the front engine mount being the slider so its easier on that weak area of the frame. the back is a plate mount that ditributes the hit load over the frame spar so its easier on teh back bolt as well

you can kinda see the back plate im talking about here

so if it does pivot it will pivot upward on the plate and also pull the rail/plate on the other side of the bike since they are bolteed together through the swingarm pivot.

Re: I know its cold but is anyone riding this weekend?

trick tested Stunter approved :YEAH if it's just 2 sliders instead of a race rail like you were talkin bout... it's not gona hold up even if it's just those 2 sliders, and connected.. they bend upward, and you have to cut the cage off (i had one) it bent upward, and then the stator cover would hit

Re: I know its cold but is anyone riding this weekend?

i like it. it got blasted 6 times yesterday. working perfect. and only gonna get better. sorry i worked in a metal fab shop for 2 years...so its not like its some half assed ****. only reason its not done is because the guys shop im doing it at is backed up with orders so its put on hold.

SS 0's are coming along good. how are you coming on them paul? i counter steer when i come into them and can get one full one around 2/5 of the time. i try and put my body weight "outside" the circle and keep my weight on the inside foot at all times. working good i just gotta get used to it i think. i think i start to high side cause i lean into the circle.
