parking lot stunting?

Alright so I live in southern Ontario and this up coming season is going to be my first for stunt. The safest thing to do to learn is just parking lot stuff, but i was wondering about the legal issues. I have heard from some people saying how private property the police can't bother you? OR u must have permisson from the land lord ect.??? I have also heard that police can also fine you?

I am getting mixed up with what people have been telling me. I just thought i would see what you guys have to say and if you have run into police and such! My record is already messed up and i don;t need any more fines or tickets as it is.

So hows legal is it?? and have police haggled you before?

thanks

To be honest with you, i rode lots all of last summer and never encountered any problems.

You just have to pick your spots

But i'm sure just about anything can happen

Re: parking lot stunting?

i've always found that talking honestly to the police gets the best results

tell them your in the lot because you want to be as safe as possible and not endanger anyone on the road.

personaly I have never had any quams with the cops in the lot (the opposite on the street). and some have even come to watch me pactice whenthey are off duty. not sure on what the laws are though

Re: parking lot stunting?

i live in windsor and me and my friends could not find a good parking lot...either it was way too bumpy or very small...so we found a nice road in an inudustrial area...cops came lots of time, never said anything to us (knock on wood)...it all depends on what cop it is, what kind of mood he's in...we've had a sargent come once and didn't say anything...some of them are smart and know they arn't gonna keep us off the streets, so it's better for them to let us mess around on a dead end road with noone to hurt except us than to do it on a busy street

Re: parking lot stunting?

As far as my buddy (Cop) says.

You can get nailed with alot of things.

1) If your in a public lot and anyone is in the presence of you stunting, you can get charged with Endangerment and Safty and Welfare of those there.

2) If your in a private lot with permission, you still can be charged with the same charges if anyone is there.

3) If your in a private lot without the permission of the owner, it's obviously tresspassing, plus any damage that occurs (Including skid marks - if they want).

Basically, from what I am told from him, is it comes down to insurance issues. Even if you are at your house and on one wheel in your driveway, you still can be charged. Depending or not if you had invited the person on your property, as soon as you do you assume all responibilities for them and still can get charged if anything happenes.

OK dont be a hater, this is what I was told. Other then that, FTP!! :YEAH

Re: parking lot stunting?

I think most cops will be considerate since you are doing it in a safe place like Snipes20 said. I just wanted to see if anyone was actually haggled! I am sure they could find something along the lines to fine or charge you with. I am just worried a bit since it my first season out there stunting. I am sure i will meet some people along the way and find a handful of places.

thanks guys! see you out there ! :YEAH

Your right, Most cops dont have time to worry about ya's really cause they do take it in consideration that your off the streets.

TOO MUCH PAPER WORK FOR THEM!!! Ha ha ha ha

That's why most people that allow for illegal activaty have waivers on there tickets.

However, what I have been told, there is nothing that is in the highway traffic act that stipulates how many wheels need to be on the ground. As long as it's not endangerment, speeding, reckless or careless driving. As long as all laws (including speed limits) are observed. No one person can say that another is not in complete control of a motor vehicle. OK I AM GOING TO GET BASHED HERE, but I personally know a COP that used that as a deffence when caught wheelieing and the Copper was a *****. He BEAT THE CHARGE!!!!

Re: parking lot stunting?

I actually passed in court once for some tickets that i got while stunting in a lot in missisauga, the only tickets that they can give you are
TRESPASSING: if they have the owner of the lot show up to agree.
DANGEROUS DRIVING: wich will be thrown out of court.
Thats all, any other ticket that they try and give you will not hold any water.

Why did they throw out the dangerous driving charge??

Give me the case number so that when I get one I can use it as a pressident. Thats how u get out of tickets. find someone else who was in the same situation and got off and then present it to the judge in your case.

Plus even if u do get a ticket judges are why more understanding then fuccking cops.

Re: parking lot stunting?

For the most part, as long as there is no one close to complain about noise you should be okay. We have been rockin the lots for 2 years now with very minimal issues..Some spots property management security asked us to leave and we did.
Our main spot the security patrol are real cool and we give them DVD's and Tshirts to say thanks. Make sure we clean up any garbage and no burnouts. Which usually keeps them happy.
I think it all comes down to the mood the cop is in as well as your attitude towards him.
The most any cop has done to us is told us to leave, that includes stunting
one of our deadend public roads...

Good luck and Happy stunting

Re: parking lot stunting?

i could see having a careless driving thrown out, but not a dangerous.

dangerous driving is a criminal charge, not a fine!

I had a careless thrown out of court before. It became a discussion about Control. "His arguement...We have Zero control one 1 wheel"

The officer said he watched me wheelie through 3 green lights, and as the forth light went yellow then red, i set the front tire down and stopped for the light. and if not for the light, i would have continued further.

My lawyer stood up and simply said "did you not say my client stopped for the light simply because it went red?"

The officer said Yes!

My lawyer says "sounds like control to me!"

2 minutes later im walkin outta court with a smile!

"ALWAYS PAY UR LAWYER!"

Re: parking lot stunting?

I know this thread is regarding riding in lots...I totaly agree with snipes20...its you attitude toward the cop that eather makes you or (no pun intended) breaks you....

However....I heard a story a few years back about a video people were gettin of the internet that they were useing in court to get off wheeli tickets...the vid was fillmed by a guy in a car following his buddy on a bike on the highway...his buddy was doing a wheeli...obaying the speed limit, useing his signal light while changing lanes etc etc etc..i was told that this video helped alot of people on court
just wondering if any one else heard of that...if so or if not..." I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER ONE CIRCULATED!!!!!"

ONCE AGAIN.....F.T.P

CHEERS

NICE!!!!

Exactly what all my COP buds tell me. AS long as all laws are observed, no single person (Nor cop) can say if any one person is not in control, whether on 1 wheel or 2.
