Re: 11 inch solid replacement bars

How do they work? I just bought 6' of this and was going to hollow them out before using them....From what my macinest is telling me solid rod actually bends easier then thick wall tube.....

Re: 11 inch solid replacement bars

hmmmm solid bends easier (obviously not doubting JonnyP, just wondering what is correct)

In either case i think i would rather have hollow... they are very strong without being TOO strong.. what do i mean by too strong??? i would rather bend a $10 tube than $100 something clipons... and if they are weaker, why bother cause the hollow ones 99% of the time bend before the clips...

Doenst sound like it makes sense but there is some phsyics behind it, and Ive heard it from more then one person....Soild rod bends easier then the same material in a thick wall tube...And not just for round, same goes for square tube....

My only problem with regular replacement handle bars is that here in Canada no one carries anything but Vortex, and they are crap! They are the same dimensions as everyone elses (wall thickness) but they are weaker and bend so easy, too easy.....When I got my FI clipons those bars lasted half a season before bending....Since then Ive been through at least 6 Vortex bars, 1 drop and they bend.....On a big drop they bend alot, more then any of the others...And they always bend before my clipons even rotate on the fork tubes.......

Its not the price of the bars that gets me, its having to setup the bars and controls over and over again....

Using the same amount of material (same weight), that statement is true -- hollow is stronger than solid. However, when you're talking about a solid 7/8" bar vs. hollow 7/8" outside diameter bar, the solid bar will be stronger (but it will weigh more and use more material).
