Re: need help making stunt video game
i feel ya on that one ... ive done some research on people coding own games off premade engines i was thinking about trying to get a team todo that , but i dont want a 1/2 *** game made by me and some other coders i want a company like activision to take the tony hawk idea / engine and make one ... if only they would listen to the average joe i know they probably get 1312312 game request but i think if we posted on all bike forums and got the #'s of people to back it maybe they would consider it
Re: need help making stunt video game
Hey great idea, just as long as its not lame ***... like Streetkings.
In terms of capturing the sub-culture...... Well I live here at "ground zero" (Akron, OH) for the stuntin sub-culture. We have a Cleveland tradition at Quaker Steak & Lube which would probably be somewhat like the Weds ride nights you refer to. It has been mostly Harleys but each year our segment grows larger and larger. Also on Weds.; they usally turn out 600-1000 bikes. Cat & mouse is usally the game, all the bikes bring all the cops and there are always a few chases each year. Mostly its trying to get away with what you can.
However, in Akron its a different story. Thanks to the Star Boys who pioneered local police policy to "do not chase". They still will chase you but once you show em you playin for keeps they tend to back off. The funny thing is that even if you do not stunt it is not uncommon for a 50 something in his BMW to throw you the international hand sign for "show me what ya got". Because of the Star Boys there is a lot less resistance from the public. In Akron there is an "secret" stunt area where I am told last weekend 200+ people showed up. Which confirms not only Akron as Ground Zero but that the "stunt " segment is growing at a VERY FAST rate. You should consider the setting and layout to be in Akron as a tribute to the PIONEERS of the subculture. As far as the game goes I would love to give you some input. Feel free to contact me, I could arrange to get some footage for you. I do not know if you have seen any of the Starboyz stuff but it was the launching pad for a lot of what we all are today.

Re: need help making stunt video game
the game would be tight if you could make it like gt3 were you have to rase money and buy things to make it go faster and put a fiddy in thin it would be tight and i would buy it and if you could like put 12 bars and a drag or street race part to it
forever
forever Here's 2 cents from a non gameplayer, who'd buy a playstation if there was a stunting game.
To get joe public (teenagers and older who don't get out much) to buy a stunt game it would need a story (gameplay) so you've got a REASON to play it. Your average guy likes the idea of being an urban freestyle warrior but theyre too chicken **** scared, so they play out their lives from a safe console. You'd have to make the gameplay as badass as possible, make them an assasin or a pimp drug dealer. The stunters are the only ones interested in real-feel bike control and bike relevant skills (but no console will help you to practice to 12 0clock your CBR).
I started to write a lowrider game where you earned cash(points) to build your dream ride, but I realised that the more whack you make the game play, the more the public liked it. Thats why films like Torque/bikerboyz get made.
We stunters are not the public, we don't like whack **** and we don't live pretend lives thru our consoles. That's why a stunt game would have to be a sell out and the writer would have to compromise our 'image' to sell enough copies.
I'm a skater too and have skated with Tony H and demo'd with Matt H those guys cringe with embarrassment at the games scene. you will too, but hey you may get rich! Good luck and if you want a screen/gameplay drop me an email!

Re: need help making stunt video game
u said drop you a pm for screen/gameplay but i dont see one your sl profile isnt active yet .. whats your email or hit me up at mekrew@hotmail.com
I know its a long shot but ive been doing some research on writing a game proposal and im thinking about throwing one together for a stunt game and sending it to activision makers of games like tony hawk and matt hoffman bmx. (i know its a long shot)
like u said tony h. and matt hoffman .. those are games about the skate and bike scene. to me a non skater/bike those games are sweet. they allow you to roam in open areas and do tricks as you please and at the same time have a story type mode that you spend needless hours trying to beat.
the concept i have is for activision to take pretty much the same idea as tony h. underground and flip it to bike. have a free city where u hop on your bike and go out and just beat up the streets. but if u want that better bike you have todo story mode and enter competitions to earn money for bike parts, gear or maybe new bike and learn new tricks(given the user starts with only basic tricks).
just my 2cents im sure u have a good insight on game industry im a programmer myself so i know how tuff these things can be.

Game sounds pimp, you should at least look at getting some of the big names in the movement involved, you know, like DV8, XMX, and some champs like Crazy Dan Jackson, and Starboyz's Marino. Just put some real names in with it to make it real to outsiders and not so fictional that would also give HUGE to the sport as a whole. No doubt the game will sell but, if done it must be done right and made R.E.A.L. PS check out "A Few Loose Screws" DVD
Re: need help making stunt video game
sorry if someone else said this, i aint gonna read all these pages.
anyway, just take True Crime and put some bikes in it. also get the controller advice from stuntriders and gamer guru's together, cause i hate games with crappy controller setups. (neversoft)

Re: need help making stunt video game
right now im trying to get buddy buddy with someone who already has thier foot in the door at activision. the reason i choose them like i said is look at games like t.hawk etc its like if u take that and make it bikes we would all be happy but i still need todo some research etc cause you know how big companies are .. ill do the research submit my proposal and they will be like thanks and revamp my idea call it thier own and get rich.
granted im not trying to get rich off it **** all i want is to be able to put some input into how its made and a free copy
so if anyone know someones who knows someone over at activision let me know trying to get that inside source

Re: need help making stunt video game
A game would be cool but it won't be happening for a few years at least. There is ZERO market for it. Stunt riding is not mainstream and about 99.9999% of the people in America don't even know about it. Give it time.
If people would stop trying to make this sport something it's not, legit, and let the masses decide on whether or not its going to be legit then the $$$ and all the cool games will come.

Re: need help making stunt video game
Every single person on stuntlife could buy 4 copies of the game it still would not even make up enough sales to make it worth it. It's just nowhere near having enough of a market for anyone to want to do it
Re: need help making stunt video game
it would sell, i would buy it! i have a few motorcycle games, and all i do is stunt or freestyle. its hard to focus on racing (GP2) when you can pull 1/4 mile wheelies and 500 foot endos, same thing with vice city i don't even play the game anymore. all i do is ride around doing wheelies and endo's pissing off other drivers. i can't wait, i hope it goes through.
