Change rear tire without machinary?

Im tired of paying outrageous prices to have my rear tire changed. Does anyone know how to do this with garage tools?

Yeh, I change all my own tires. Pull your whole sprocket assembly from your rim put your rim down on two boards at the edge of both sides of rim. Let all the air out take a car or truck, with the front tire run over the edge of tire as close as possible to the rim. This will pop the bead loose flip rim over and do the same to the other bead. THen take the tire and push one side down past the bead on the other side insert a flat screwdriver and pry the tire over the rim hold that and insert another screwdriver next to the other one and do the same work your way around the rim untill off . Now do the other side of tire the same way. Putting new tire on is easy, make sure tire is going in right direction (lubrication makes everything easier soap & water) push tire down on rim it should go on easy take other bead and push one side down into rim with screwdriver work tire around into rim. Fill up with air beads will seat watch fingers and do not put in to much air. BE CAREFULL NOT TO SCRATCH RIM It will get easier every time I hope this will help you

Hey fuzz, I was just on the harbor freight site and the only wheel changer I saw was $2k. Do you know if they have it advertised on there site? How good does it work?

I think that a shovel works the best for breaking the bead, those can be purchased for aroud $10.00 at your local hardware store. Then all you need is a couple of tire spoons ,and you are good to go. You will be changing tires in a about 15 to 20mins.

or u can use a small piece of plywood and a large C clamp to break the bead.....Clamp the C clamp close to the bead of the tire on both sides and crank it down. One side will break loose. Now place the piece of wood against the wheel on the side that the bead broke loose from, and put the clamp on the bead that needs broken and the wood. Then crank down again and it should break the bead loose on the other side. Long explaniation, but it takes about a minute to do. We also have one of those Harbor freight tire changers and they are a good investment, espically if you have quads too, but ive used the C clamp method many times.

And when putting the tire on or pulling one off the wheel your best bet is to use wheel savers or just cut up a plastic bottle and use the pieces to protect the rim where u are prying on it.
