can you just put 2 down on the front and leave the stock chain and rear sprocket? or will the chain be too long? just wanted some advice before i try installing it and finding out it wont work.

The best combination is 1 down two up in the rear for the gixxer 1000. I am about to go up two more in the rear. The smaller the front sprocket the more wear you will put on the engine and trany.

1 tooth down in front equals ABOUT 3 up in the rear!, So 2 down in front is easier and better done with 1 down in front and 3 up in rear.
And actually, the worst thing about a really small front is the wear on the chain! It'll start to kink and wear wuickly.

Whats wrong with the stock chain????? It works just fine. PS....New chains are well over $100
if you wanna do the sick **** you gotta go big. Like I said I am 3 up and 3 down. That is fine for slow wheelies but if you wanna take it to the next level (ie,......circles) You gotta go more than that.

I'm no mechanic, but since the 1000 comes stock with a 17 tooth front, I see no harm in dropping it down to 15. 750's and 600's come stock with 16 and usually go down to 15 in the front without complications. I actually went down 2 in the front and up 5 in the rear on my 1000 and still use the stock chain. I can't say how I like it though because I've only put 10 miles on it since I changed it. Can't wait for better weather so I can go play with it!!!
