gsxr 1000 owners can you just put 2 down on the front and leave the stock chain and rear sprocket? or will the chain be too long? just wanted some advice before i try installing it and finding out it wont work. |
yeah you can go two down it shouldnt be to long my friends got 2 down witheverything stock i think |
gearing The best combination is 1 down two up in the rear for the gixxer 1000. I am about to go up two more in the rear. The smaller the front sprocket the more wear you will put on the engine and trany. |
1 tooth down in front equals ABOUT 3 up in the rear!, So 2 down in front is easier and better done with 1 down in front and 3 up in rear. And actually, the worst thing about a really small front is the wear on the chain! It'll start to kink and wear wuickly. |
but can you go 1 down and 3 up with the stock chain? |
I did two up in the rear without changing the chain. I agree that two down in the front is to much wear on the chain. It will be close on one down and 3 up with the stock chain. |
im one down and 4 up in the back and thats not too drastic i think motophycho mark is like 2 and 6 up i wouldnt go any less than 4 up in the back |
you can go 2 down and stock in the back with the stock chain thats what i used to ride with now im 2 down and 4 up with a stock chain mark from motophyscos is 3 down 6 up |
Actually, a smaller front sprocket puts less wear on the countershaft and associated parts. Don't propogate lies and untruths. |
gearing I'm 3 and 3....works good Mellen |
1 up front=2back not 3...and why not change the fucking chain why would you want to stay with a gay as stock chain chain are what like 50 bucks?.... |
Chain Whats wrong with the stock chain????? It works just fine. PS....New chains are well over $100 if you wanna do the sick shit you gotta go big. Like I said I am 3 up and 3 down. That is fine for slow wheelies but if you wanna take it to the next level (ie,......circles) You gotta go more than that. Mellen |
The stock chain is fine. Save your money for a starter or clutch cover. lol. |
2 Teeth will work with all your stock equpment but it will feel jerky and wear fast go 6 up in the rear. |
I'm no mechanic, but since the 1000 comes stock with a 17 tooth front, I see no harm in dropping it down to 15. 750's and 600's come stock with 16 and usually go down to 15 in the front without complications. I actually went down 2 in the front and up 5 in the rear on my 1000 and still use the stock chain. I can't say how I like it though because I've only put 10 miles on it since I changed it. Can't wait for better weather so I can go play with it!!!:bouncingf :bouncingf |
