12bar/subframe connection

I have a triumph speed four, and no one makes things for it like an engine cage, or 12'bar, just cause there's not too many of them, i'm sure another bike has a subframe that's pretty close to the same width and angle, so i might be able to fit one from another bike, but what i was wondering, is how much pressure goes onto the bar/subframe connection, my bike has two tabs welded onto each side, for a grabrail or a luggage rack, do you think they would be strong enough just to drill vertical holes in the bar, and bolt them right on, or would i have to grind off the tabs and drill straight into the subframe? here's a picture to give you a better idea of what i'm talking about, the round unpainted parts on each side are the tabs
