What am i doing wrong?
What am i doing wrong?
Alright I`m sick of not being able to wheelie worth a crap. I`ve watched DVDs on how to do it, read all the wheelie threads and still can`t do it. I got a 1997 Yamaha YZF 1000R. I can power it up decent in first but wanna clutch it. I`ll be going around 30-40 MPH,pull clutch in rev RPM`s up and dump clutch but all my bike does is Jump forward. I tried for like 2 hrs tonight. Please HELP
Re: What am i doing wrong?
i noticed you were powering it up when you were behind alicia and i.... gaaabage!
anyway... start out slower. a lot slower. get going like 10-15 in first, clutch in, rev, and drop clutch (quick but smooth) start out at low rpms because that thing will come right up... gradually increase your rpms till it comes up nice. it will be scary at first... like, oh no there goes my new underwear type of scary.. but youll get the hang of it. dont forget.. COVER YOUR REAR BRAKE. that **** has saved my *** on more than one occaision.
Re: What am i doing wrong?
If you are trying to do a pwer wheelie try to compress the forks alittle at the same time your rev it. Then when you snap the clutch the forks will be rebounding and give you some extra help getting it up instead of launching you forward.
Re: What am i doing wrong?
ive ridden a few YZFs and found that they are one of the smoothest bikes to wheel off the clutch. they dont feel like they're lerching forward like other bikes can. i would learn in second because it wont come up as fast as in first and you will be able to get a better feel of where the front tire is. and make it all one motion when you pull in the clutch, wined on the throtle and drop the clutch. It will come up.
Re: What am i doing wrong?
Try really letting the clutch out fast. I ride and ex250 and am just starting to get the wheel up. When I first started trying I found myself letting the clutch out too slow. Make a fist... now open it as fast as you can. That is how fast I have to let the clutch out in order to get the front tire up.
Also make sure you are not letting off the throttle when you let the clutch out. I find myself doing that too often.
I can't wheelie worth ****, but those 2 things are getting me closer and making me better and I have the same problems. Good luck and ride safe

Well can`t try tonight. NY weather again thunder lightning and a sh@t load of rain, But thanks for all the help I`ll get this sh@t down soon.
Re: What am i doing wrong?
I have been trying for 3 seasons and I just cant do it. I can pop it up in first with either the clutch or powering it up, but once I get it up and put it right down
If I try clutching it in 2nd it just jumps forward and goes nowhere. I have to stand and try to get it up and just get it off the ground alittle bit.
NO LUCK after 3 seasons. I must be the only person in the riding world that cant wheelie after 3 years

Re: What am i doing wrong?
it has alot to do with where and how your sitting, if your leaning forward its not going to come up for ****. try sitting upright, as you release the clutch slide your *** back in the seat and tilt your head back a little. if that doesnt help i heard dr. pepper is the wheelie juice.... have to put a plow on the front of that bitch...lol
