Re: FI cage pulled threads out..

If it stripped the threads and didnt break anything you can just retap it with a bolt that is just a bit bigger that stock.

If U plan on crashing it again, do it the easiest way so if it pulls out again or breaks your not out much!!

The 929's suck for that reason. The holes dont go all the way through...If they did like the gixxer you could use a bolt with a nut on the other end......thats the easiest fix in that department.

i wouldnt drill the hole bigger and re-tap cuz if it happens again. id try to get that stuff on t.v.. i dont know what they are called but they look like welding sticks, but its alluminum and you heat them up with a torch, fill the hole with it and then do your hole.

We will call that the Crazy Dan option. Just blow your motor up and the new block will have news threads. Problem solved

Definately use a heli-coil. It is actually stronger than the original threaded hole. The bolt is a 10x1.25mm. I have seen the head gasket leak after they've been welded because the heat warps the block and head surfaces...just my

It's called alumalloy....it sucks...the tensile strength is not very high from what I heard.....I would heli-coil it. That is what I did and it has held up great. When (or if) that happens to fail I would take it and have it welded and retapped.

yeah 10x1.25 sounds familiar. lol

its a bitch though cause most helicoil tools arent long enough to go through the frame and into the motor. it will work though the best, if not drill out and upgrade to 12mm

I have an FI cage on my liter gixxer, is this a Honda problem or is it an FI cage problem? Just trying to prevent the same thing happening.

Re: FI cage pulled threads out..

if you know how to use a drill just drill all the way through and put a nut on a bolt, use either a nylon lock nut or put a lock washer in there. BAM ITS FIXED!!!!

Its the left side motor mount...I dont want to drill into the side of the head..
Well Dan what heilcoil tool where you using that when through the frame mount the spacer and into the engine?

Or did you lower your engine?

Re: FI cage pulled threads out..

for a heli-coil you drill and tap the hole bigger so you will have to drop the engine down to get to do it.
