That must be one of those 220 hp 600's I've been reading about it the total BS forum. I don't think you could tow a 600 behind a formula car, cut it loose, and get 200 mph out of it.

Maybe 170, plus the initial 30 bs mph added in, yeah, I guess you can...

Nah! I don't think a 600 can go 170...
160? Still hard to swallow, sure the speedo says it on your bike... I guess. Read the raw data sheets when all the bikes get tested and retested, don't believe anything the factory puts out, they just want to sell you the bike, when independent testers, like superbike magazine, test the bikes, I don't see any 600 breaking into the 170's. I really doubt that a different pipe/airbox is going to add over 1 or 2 mph, if anything. Regearing, no, the bike doesn't have the power to pull current gearing to redline in top gear, let alone making it even taller.

Not to dis anybody, but DON'T believe the speedo if it's reading THAT far off. Also, if the 1k's are only going 181, and the 750's are hitting 160, it's really doubtful that your 600 is going to go 170, let alone 200.

Keep in mind, I haven't seen the tests for the 04's, in fact the last data sheet I looked at was for 02's, so maybe the bikes have improved by leaps and bounds, if so I appologize in advance.

Ok, folks. Here is the general rule of thumb of bikes....

For every 100mph subtract 5.8mph....

So if you are doing 167.35, then you are doing....

lol....

you do the math. I gave you the formula.....

But that is a general rule for all bikes as everyone is different by a little bit and what you have done to it.............

You would never reach redline in sixth with that gearing. Your bike(Im assuming your talking about your gix6) doesn't have enough power to get to redline in 6 gear if you had a 25 tooth sprocket. I doubt it would do it in fifth either. You still would only top out at around 155mph. Probably in 3rd or 4th gear, maybe less in 5 and 6 just becuase your gearing would be too high

Another less extreem example is the GSXR750 gearing. From the factory its geared for soming like 195mph give or take, But theres no way in hell a 750 is going to hit that. it stops eccelerating at about 170mph.

didnt read all the pages...but i didnt think gearing affected speedo? i know on my EX the speedo is hooked up to the front wheel...so gearing wouldnt affect that....i dont know about bigger bikes though...is it the same?

It's different on newer sportbikes, reads from the revolutions of the front sprocket. So regearing throws it off.

Speaking of which, a friend of mine stopped by yesterday on his TT 600 triump. Stock, it's not too bad running of a bike, it'll pick up a nice second gear stand up wheelie. Anyway, he put a power commander on it. He did all the work himself, including the settings on it.

I couldn't believe the difference. I always thought they didn't do much for a gixxer, but damn, his triumph now gets from 1k to 6k rmps so fast. Just barely bump the throttle and that sucka is like vvvVVVROOOMMM.

Still stock exhaust even.

It always amazes me how my old 1985 sportbike spedo was "spot on" and now the new bikes can't seem to stay calibrated worth anything. All these 600's reading in the 170s and 180s... Yet the 130 pound guy, wearing full leathers, working for cycle magazine, that has full mechanical support, can only get 150+ mph out of the bike.

Even in 1985 though it was already flowing like water though "how fast you had that bike?" "Uh, 135" "Oh, I've had my 1976 cb 750k up to 170!" "Hmmm, uh, well, good!"

I learned to just nod my head and agree, I guess I'll always have the slowest bike on the block...
