Question shifting from 1st to 2nd...

hey ppl, I can ride 1st gear out to the limiter and would like to ride it out further. Do I shift right when I bring her up in 1st or do I shift after I hit the limiter? If I shift into 2nd right when I bring her up, do I let off the throttle? how much? Oh, I can do 2nd gear standups but I like doing 1st gears because I started out that way. Thanks for any help. Shift about 2 grand before the rev limiter. Let off slightly when you shift but not all the way, I don't use the clutch, you prob knew that but just in case. Just be ready when you click it because it def will come up quick if you stay at the same place on the gas as you were in 1st. good luck

That's how I do it. Yamaha trany's suck I'm rebuilding my trans for the second time in two years. They don't like wheelies because the oil pick up doesn't get oil when the bike is up in a wheelie. I want to try and fab a new pick up so it can get oil from the back of the oil pan, and I'm also getting My gears back cut.

im not sure on yamahas but ive heard ppl on gixxers its easier to preload the gear lever by keeping a little pressure on it, and soon as you pop it up in 1st around 8k and its on the way up roll of throttle barley and click into 2nd and come back on thottle hard to keep it from coming back down. A56USER has a good video of himself doing this if he reads it im sure hell post it up.

For me it's easier to shift it if I grab second before the revs get so high. Just level off the wheelie fairly close to balance point, take off a few millimeters of gas, kick second, the bike will come up a hair, level it back out and get on down the road on one wheel.

I TRY to hit second when 1st is at 9k, that way second will drop down a ways and you'll have some room to run it out if you need that. Also, if you get really close to balance point, first will last you quite a while. If you can see where you are going... you aren't there yet on a gixxer...
