Question learning slow wheelies ?

I need a little feed-back from the pros out there. I'm learning how to slow my wheelies down and am having a hard time with the clutch release. Do you 'hold' the clutch all the way in while rollin 5-7mph or do you just 'slip' the clutch? Right now I'm rollin about 6mph, hold the clutch all the way in with one finger(index, hurts like a ***** after a while ), then open up the throttle. I just started so they're nowhere near 12o'clock. Maybe 10o'clock . There must be a better way. Anyway, any advise on hand position and clutch release is appreciated

so when you dump it , and reach the BP is that when you apply pressure to the brake? Or do you apply pressure on the way up?

ok this is the way i do it it might help or not i usually run my idle a little higher than normal pull the clutch in and rev the throttle dump it with pressure on the back brake so when i get it up im almost stopped and the idle usually just takes it a little so u just play with the brake and the throttle (play more with the brake than the peddle) and it works for me it takes a little time to get it and feel comfortable with it but it will come along one other thing i dont float with it to the point then slow it down i bring it straight up and go good luck be safe

im there with ya buddy

hey man i just recently have slows down respectively

i try not to be moving much at all.
rev it up to about 7 grand and dump the clutch.
at first i wouldn't want it up that fast but im really cumpfy with my brakeing skills.
i start applying brake at about 10 o'clock, but just a little.
then everything after that is brake.
i was having alot of problems with my throttle hand, it was much too choppy.
once you get past that just work on that brake.
i've got mine so slow that im killing the motor.
i am looking right now for a bigger sproket for the back.
right now i have stock gearing and im doing fine, but i want to go SLOWER!!!
usually when i bring the front back down my speedo is at 5 or 6 mph.
unless i go too slow then i dont get a chance to look cause the motor stalls and the bike slamms down HARD.

other than that
when you get cumpfy with the brake, just learn where your POB is and go past it...........pull in the clutch still working the break and hang on. ive got a freestyle 12 bar and it is solid, if you hit it too hard you will think your coming off.
but you will get used to that.

if you need any more help let me know.
there aren't too many r6 stunters so we need to help each other.

Thumbs up

thanks for the replys Biscuit, how do you handle the clutch right before you bring it up?You're running stock gearing. How high is your idle? And what RPM are you at when you dump the clutch? This is my method:

1: roll at 5mph
2: standing with with left foot on rear peg, right foot covering brake
3: pull in and hold clutch with index finger
4: rev pretty high( not sure what RPMs but it's up there)
5: dump clutch(but still covering it as a habit & to be on the safe side).
6: front tire shoots up fast and I panic and hit back brake.
7: after tire comes down, I notice I have the clutch in and for some effed-up reason I 'rev' the throttle...WTF!
More feed back and corrections is appreciated

Also noticed my upper fairing bracket broke off does this happen often, since the front comes down hard?

check out my pittyful attempt...

Also, mad props to 'Sillyneck' for guiding me & taking time out to answer my question I can't wait to get this **** down!!!
I've gotta practice, practice, practice!!!

thanks,

lookin good

hey that pic looks pretty good

i think the hardest part is throtle controll and brake
for the brake part you could practice applying the brake as you just ride around with both wheels on the groud in first gear going slow. just test and see how hard you have to push compared to how much gas you give it.

as far as my method.
i ride slower than 5 ( i dont really understand my r6 it doesnt read anything slower than 5 but i know that im not moving that fast) barely moving

left on back peg, right covering brake

index on clutch
rev that bitch i'd say to about 6 or 7 grand (not really sure just guessing by the sound)
dump the clutch and keep index covering the clutch (it good to get used to for doing coasters and 12's, you'll need to pull it in for both)

let off on the gas quite a bit so you dont loop it
and at about 10 you start to apply the brake
you will have to get used to the brake controll but onece you do you will love it.

tust me when i tell you this...................you can bring that thing up alot higher than you think.
i dont know if your ghetto bar will hold it up but can you just pick it up while its parked and just stand behind it and see how it feels to have it back all of the way?

that may help.

you can also try clutching it up in 2nd and work on brake controll you'll just be going faster but your throtle does't have to be as refind
just bring it up slow like 20mph or so, try not to go to fast

oh you will need alot of body english, when that little bike gets up there going so slow it will want to walk all over the place. but once you get used to it you wont have to move much.

???do you have any frame sliders or a cage???
if you don't buy one!!!
i have a cage from freestyle and that thing ROCKS, ive dropped from 12, 3 times hard. the only problem that i've had was that one of the engine mount bolts vibrated loose and bent when it cam down from a 12 but everything is ok if i didnt have one id be getting some case covers for sure.

im not sure if any of this is gonna help, im kinda babbleing
but let me know if you have any more questions ill do what i can.

Hey Biscuit, you probably can't tell from the pic but I have a FI cage also.
I havn't dropped it doing 12's yet, but I did dump it going 55 MPH on Rt. 10 when a soccer mom cut me off and my front locked up bike flipped from one side to the other. I was able to ride away with a dent tank, subframe, rear fairing, mirrors, fork and upper fairing/lights all f@%ked up. Oh yeah, and a broken hip bone! Bottom line...the Freestyle cages are awesome!!! Anyway, thanks again for the tips Hope the weather is ok this weekend so I can practice. Gonna print this out and soak it in.
Oh, I was thinking of buying another fairing bracket but thought it might break off again. I've seen on some bikes a 'dirt bike' type head lite and was wondering if you or anyone knows where to get one for my R6. Ok, enough babble I'm sure I'll have more questions L8r

ill call him and find out who makes it. and post back.

my computer crashed about 2 months ago so i lost alot of pics and videos but im trying to find some of my slow wheelies and 12's to post.

keep up the work i wanna see some pics or video if you get a chance

hey, are you planning on going to stuntfest this year (feb 8, 2004)(lakeland, fl) i know there are alot of northern riders that show up cause its so cold up there and you can ride all year in florida.

BISCUIT Do have parking on lock? My *** tried some more the other day, not one of them would stay up.Besides leaning back an using the rear brake, what else is there that I'm missing to pull it off?

p.s. my avatar is my second time I ever parked. But that was from the plastic giving a little so it doesn't count.

i dont have parking down at all, every now and then i can do it.
i dont really practice that as much as i should.
but when i do try........man that thing likes to wobble alot.
when i set up for 12's and parking i go past the POB and pull in the clutch let off of the brake quite a bit
(cause the motor isn't pushing anymore) oh yeah im leaning back really far
and let the bar hit the ground an try to touch the brake just enough to slow it down but not bring the front down.
if it does i let out the clutch a little and put the bar back down and start all over.
but BEWARE.......... body english is a must. your bike will move so much its not funny.
if it wobbles alot i try to run behind it while holding on to the bars and kinda push with my arms to keep it steady.

im gonna go drink a few shots but ill be right back if you guys are on here

I've been practicing slow stuff for about 24 hours now and scraped 12's about 10 times and ate **** hard twice. I am having one hell of a time with balancing the bike out. I noticed that I was slipping the clutch while it was up, so I just dump it now but sometimes it shoots up soooo fast that I'm scraping b4 I even have a chance to use some rear brake. I hit sideways on my bar a few times but somehow recoverd. I will post a link to some footage of me attempts so that you can critique it and let me know what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance...

hey gizzer750 congrats
have you scraped before or was today the first?
i have read different places that some people already have pressure on the brake before they dump the clutch
i like mine to come up REALLY fast so i dont brake untill im up.
try that and maybe it will work better for you.
i love slow tricks, they are so much more fun
you can pretty much practice anywhere there is a hard surface.
and there foecking technical
!!!Plus!!! you can ride next to girls walking to there cars in parking lots, and spit game.

let me know if i can help with any thing else
im not a pro or anything but...........ill try to help.
